July 20, 2005 10:10 pm

There is no longer any question that Karl Rove was one of the members of the Bush Administration who leaked Valerie Plame’s identity. There has been some question as to whether Rove’s action are sufficient for conviction. For example, there have been claims that Rove did not realize that Plame’s CIA connection was secret. Another Rove defense has fallen apart. The Washington Post reports that Plame’s identity “was clearly marked to show that it contained classified material at the...

Ankle Biting Pundits posts a claim that Dean “called Republicans bigots.” I went to check their link, wading through several pages where Philly.com tried to get me to sign up for tons of unwanted email offers. Ultimately I got to the actual story. Guess what. No use of the word “bigot.” Here’s what they...

James Doohan 1920-2005

I first heard of the death of James Doohan (who played Scotty on Star Trek) on NPR’s Talk of the Nation. Sure there’s the Supreme Court nomination, White House scandals, and other news, but they still devoted time for a tribute to James Doohan. That is just one small measure of his importance to our culture. This was certainly not the most significant tribute which Doohan received during his life. For example, Neil Armstrong has credited him for giving...

The predictable reactions — Republicans are nearly united in their praise — come just moments after the nomination was announced tonight by President Bush. Roberts faces confirmation in the Senate, where Senator Kerry says there are “serious questions” about Roberts. Kerry says he’s concerned about Roberts’ willingness to uphold civil rights and privacy rights in Roe-versus-Wade. Kennedy didn’t refer to...
