Falling, Falling, Falling… Bush in the Polls

A new Newsweek poll shows that Bush’s approval rating is falling, falling, falling…

61 percent of Americans polled say they disapprove of the way President George W. Bush is handling the war in Iraq, according to a new NEWSWEEK poll.

Thirty four percent say they approve.

This is Bush’s lowest rating on Iraq and the first time it has dropped below 40 percent in the NEWSWEEK poll.

And 50 percent of those polled say the United States is losing ground in its efforts to establish security and democracy in Iraq; just 40 percent say the U.S. is making progress there.

Bush’s approval ratings have dropped to 42 percent; 51 percent of Americans say they disapprove of the way Bush is handling his job as president.

Excellent!!! A few days ago I asked what Bush’s disapproval rating was, noting that Bush rarely had an approval rating below 50% in his first term and never had a disapproval rating higher than his approval rating. I worried that Bush’s drop in approval may just be Bush becoming even more unpopular in the 20 Kerry states (e.g. Bush voters in blue states realizing their neighbor was right).
Now I’ve seen enough evidence to convince me even Bush voters in states Bush won are having second thoughts about that vote they cast, PARTICULARLY those who voted for Bush because “you don’t change horses in midstream.” Its too bad for our troops (and our fiscal situation) that it turns out “the horse” really was drowning.

LOL! The horse was head first in very deep watering. Too bad indeed. I suspect the numbers will continue to plummet.

‘Spose it would not be politically correct to ask some of the folks I talked with last fall if they still like Bush better than Kerry. Mas nicht. 3.5 more years,,,

Bush Hits New Lows for Iraq Approval, Honesty

A new AP/Ipsos Poll, conducted 8/1-3 indicates that President Bush has hit historic lows in approval of his handling of Iraq and the percentage of Americans who agree that he is “honest.”

President Bush is perceived as “honest” by 48 percent of respondents — the first time his honesty rating has fallen below 50 percent. 50 percent now say he is not honest. A total of 59 percent now say they disapprove of his “handling of the situation in Iraq,” with 38 percent approving. The percentage of Americans who now view his confidence as “arrogance” has risen dramatically, from 49 percent in January to 56 percent now.

His overall job approval continues to hover at 42 percent, with 55 percent of respondents disapproving. His handling of Social Security is also down, with only 33 percent of Americans approving and 63 percent disapproving.
