The Bugman Exterminates Himself from Congress

Tom “The Bugman” Delay told Tweety Matthews that he will announce tomorrow that he will not seek reelection to Congress.

Just because he must have finally realized he’s going to be in prison, after his top two ex-aides plead, Delay is dropping out of his race for reelection to Congress.

This is bad news! Now the GOP will get someone not yet known to be as corrupt and evil and the Democrats won’t pick up his seat…

Since he won the primary, how do they go about getting another name on the ballot? It doesn’t seem fair to just put a name on it. Or even have another primary election. Also, when the Dems take over the house, which according to something I just saw on Crooks, the are and the Repukins know it, we they be able to redistrict and put things back to the way they belong?

  2. Hi sandrakae,

“under Texas law he must either die, be convicted of a felony, or move out of his district to be removed from the November ballot”.

Needless to say, I opt for dieing. Though I know he won’t pick the most appropriate method of removing himself from the ballot and kill himself. Wingers NEVER do the right, honorable or best thing for our country.

“under Texas law, he must either die, be convicted of a felony, or move out of his district to be removed from the November ballot. DeLay told Time magazine that he is likely to change his official residence to Alexandria, Va., by the end of May…the Texas Republican Party will choose a replacement candidate.”

You may remember that John Ashcroft had just lost a race to a dead man in Missouri when Bush tapped him for Justice.
(Since the candidate had died, the people who voted for him were giving the Democrats the chance to select another candidate. As I recall, it happened fairly close to the election)

The Dem candidate, Nick Lampson, is pretty strong. The GOP may have as much trouble as the Katherine Harris situation trying to find someone to follow the cockroach.
The other problem is there is a former Republican running as an Independent who had an 11% polling in the 3 way with Delay. He could further dilute the GOP vote – or not.

Redistricting is done by the state legislature. As it turns out:
“…the redistricted map may have cost him his seat. DeLay gave up some GOP strongholds in his district to help elect new Republicans in neighboring districts, bringing his own majority down to 55 percent in the 2004 election. This election year promised to be far more difficult.”

Tom dug himself into this mess. People who give in to power end up thinking they are invincible/untouchable- until they feel the long arm of the law prodding them into court.

This would make a really good movie 🙂
Maybe they could run it at the beginning of each new Congressional session to remind the new and re-elected that power plays don’t pay in the long run.

I kinda like the felony charge conviction. It would add more tar and feathers to the whole group :0

  5. Go for the gusto a felony! They have to know this is coming…

  6. BlueWashington says:

OH CRAP! Just when I was looking for DeLay to the a spectacular DeFeat!

too bad he can’t be sent to Gitmo to cool his jets a bit…

Bye, bye Bugman! HA! He was leading in his race yet claims he had to step down for fear of the race getting too dirty? Sounds like someone got tipped off…yup, there’s a big old can of pesticide aimed right at you, Bugman! This is getting good! You know slimy Delay (along with Abramoff who probably already has in order to get his light sentence) will squeal like a pig!

the corruption charge is so tied around the neck of the GOP at this point, it’ll be hard for Delay’s resignation to change that. Given the fact that Delay was probably gonna lose his House seat, we weren’t gonna have Delay to kick around anymore after November. Its close enough now to November that we can still use the specter of Delay nationally-especially if Delay gets convicted of something between now and then.
Frankly, I was more upset when Gingrich resigned. While I’m quite certain that Gingrich is evil incarnate I honestly cannot name anybody on the right ove rthe last 50 years who did so much to unite the left while at the same time turning off swing voters. Can you?

If Gingrich hadn’t pulled his shut-down the government stunt (a.k.a. the Gingrich who stole Christmas) I’m not sure the Dems pick up any House seats or re-elect Clinton in 1996. If only every Republican candidate could be tied at the waste (in the public’s mind) to Newt Gingrich the way Bob Dole was. The Dems would never lose another election.

Don’t forget the sordid saga of Dan Rostenkowski, the former Dem Head of Ways and Means, who was a real moral sewer and gave Gingrich ammunition to wage the Contract on America.

This is the same ammo DeLay and other sleazy Repubs are giving Dems now in the battle to take back Congress.
