Celling The War On Terror

C.I.A. Detainees Sent To Guantanamo:

President Bush on Wednesday acknowledged the existence of previously secret CIA prisons around the world and said 14 high-value terrorism suspects — including the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks — have been transferred from the system to Guantanamo Bay for trials.

“The most important source of information on where the terrorists are hiding and what they are planning is the terrorists themselves,” Bush said in a White House speech with families of those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks making up part of the audience. [natch] “It has been necessary to move these individuals to an environment where they can be held in secret, questioned by experts and, when appropriate, prosecuted for terrorist acts.”

Y’mean, moved to *another* secret environment, right George? And if he’s now acknowledging the fact that these secret prisons do exist, then what exactly becomes of the chest-thumping investigation of the media leak concerning these prisons?

Is he acknowledging as well that the C.I.A. did rendition and torture suspected terrorists?

Does that mean our good Secretary of State “Dr.” Condoleeza Rice now disavows her statement “The United States does not transport and has not transported detainees from one country to another for the purpose of interrogation using torture.”

Is there anything this administration won’t do to prostitute the memory of 9/11 and cell the war on terror?

A good read on Guantanamo is Guantanamo and the Abuse of Presidential Power by Joseph Marguiles. He was was on the attorneys on the first Guantanamo case that went to the Supreme Court.
