Hmmmm…John McCain says the only way to “win” in Iraq is to increase troops levels:
McCain referred to it as “immoral” to keep troops there without adequate support, and said “We have to have additional forces, or we will be playing whack-a-mole.”
Today comes word that the Pentagon agrees…U.S. Considers Raising Troop Levels in Iraq:
“The idea, dubbed the “surge option” by some officials, would involve increasing American forces by 20,000 troops or more for several months in the hope of improving security, especially in Baghdad. That would mark a sharp rise over the current baseline of 144,000 troops.
And just the other day Representative Charlie Rangel (D-NY) said fine, but suggested reinstating the draft.
At a time when some lawmakers are urging the military to send more troops to Iraq, “I don’t see how anyone can support the war and not support the draft,” said Rangel, who also proposed a draft in January 2003 [for men and women 18-42], before the U.S. invasion of Iraq. “I think to do so is hypocritical.”
So what say you, St. John? After all, you’re so gung ho about “ramping up troop levels” there, just so you can run in ’08 with the motto “See? If we’d done like I said, we could have achieved victory.” How about it?
Let’s start the draft back up, and this time make no exceptions for education, class, race, gender or anything. None. Only a mental disability gets you tossed from the list (and even they can do things state-side to help out).
C’mon McCain, it’s time to put up or shut up.
