Surge the Peace Corps

President Kennedy greeting Peace Corps Volunteers headed to Africa

Here was a bright moment in US history, President Kennedy greeting new Peace Corps volunteers on their way to Africa.

I can’t remember the last time I heard, saw, or read anything recent about the Peace Corps – then I found this site run by PeaceCorpsWriters.org. It has loads of links to volunteers writing about their experiences from all over the world. In some cases they have to write with pencil and paper and have their posts carried to others who put them on the web. With some fascinating and inspiring stories, these Americans have amazing courage – to go out and face the world unarmed, and work to make it better.

One Response to Surge the Peace Corps

  1. Ginny Cotts says:

    John,

I have been thinking we need to consider an alternative service. True peacemakers. Essentially similar to Peace Corps but with a little Habitat or America Corps thrown in. Groups large enough to do some serious work. Road building, well digging, what ever. Restore some good will and understanding that Americans do care about other people on the planet.
