CB2, the android baby

Now I like science and technology as much as the next guy, but this one kinda creeped me out at first. Some Japanese scientists have made a baby robot that can walk, talk, and feel. Get this, if you tap baby-bot on the shoulders, “it blinks as if surprised, stops moving, and turns its gaze toward the person who touched it.” If that’s not enough to amaze you, the creepy little fellow will “try and grab a toy dangled in front of it.” After you get over the first fits of ewwwwww, the thing does seem to be kinda cool.

Now that you got over the urge to shiver, look at that face, is he not the cutest thing you ever saw? Okay, so maybe not. Go ahead, pinch his cheeks.

It has 197 tactile sensors embedded in its outer layer and 51 compressed air-powered actuators, which allow it to react to touch.

When CB2’s shoulders are tapped, it blinks as if surprised, stops moving, and turns its gaze toward the person who touched it. It will also try and grab a toy dangled in front of it.

For a You Tube that you may not be able to understand, but you can sure see what he looks like, here is the link.

Perhaps they should issue one to every high school freshman, as a “baby” to take care of. They could get a taste of what real responsibility is and maybe the teen pregnancy rates would fall.
