Tony Snow: Washingtonian for “Moron”

Sometimes you really have to wonder if these guys are listening to themselves when they spew this nonsense out to the public:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House on Thursday made fun of former President Clinton and his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, for criticizing President Bush’s decision to erase the prison sentence of former aide I. Lewis ”Scooter” Libby.

”I don’t know what Arkansan is for chutzpah, but this is a gigantic case of it,” presidential spokesman Tony Snow said.

Arkansan for “chutzpah”? I think that’s “balls the size of the Ozarks”, but I’m not sure.

“Regarding John Conyers’ scheduled hearings on Bush’s commutation of Libby’s sentence, Snow said “Well, fine, knock himself out. I mean, perfectly happy. And while he’s at it, why doesn’t he look at January 20th, 2001?” in reference to the closing hours of Clinton’s presidency when he pardoned 140 people, including fugitive financier Marc Rich.”

Er, y’mean the same Marc Rich who was represented by none other than Scooter Libby? That Marc Rich, Tony?

Lord. You can “look at 1/20/01” all you want. I prefer to focus on 1/20/09, the end date for Operation: American Freedom and the end of this long, national nightmare.

UPDATE: Nicole Belle at C&L has a great “six degrees of separation” post up re Libby & Rich.

I hate this guy worse the Scott McClellan. At least Scott always knew he was giving us a line of crap. Tony has that snarky smirk and actaully buys into all of Bush’s Propaganda.

I used to catch Tony Snow on talk radio occasionally. He was exactly as slimey as any of the other jerks. Rove knew exactly what he was getting, and it seems to have been part of the strategy of increased divisiveness that is now playing out.

However, even idiots sometimes have good ideas. I’m all in favor of looking at the end of the Clinton term because I saw a number of things that lead me to believe that Bill went actively on the take when he knew he was close to the end. I believe that Bill Clinton is dirty. I believe that he took money, including for the Marc Rich pardon. And with a Libby link, I’d like to see the situation explored. If there was a payment, there was a bag man, and guys like Libby often provide those services. It requires someone who is a player, who is connected, who is trusted, and, when a President is involved, someone who is real close to the top of the heap. In this kind of matter, political party doesn’t matter, only political connections.

If we have to go through Clinton to get Libby, and have to go through Libby to get Bush, then so be it. Because the American people will put up with a lot, but we never put up with cash changing hands under the table. Libby would not be able to escape prison without talking, and no one would be able to help him without going up in flames. This could easily be the connection that unravels everything.
