A couple of Democratic politicians from Los Angeles are on the stump in Iowa, pulling out their best talking points for two different candidates, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton:
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa continued his campaign efforts on behalf of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in Iowa Monday while City Councilman Eric Garcetti was stumping for Sen. Barack Obama. “I say I’m mayor of Los Angeles, and some of them put up a smile,” Villaraigosa told KNBC news while greeting patrons in a Des Moines diner. “But they’re so used to seeing elected officials and national leaders that, frankly, you gotta get right to the substance so they’ll begin to listen.”
Council President Garcetti, who has endorsed Obama, was also in Iowa to get the word out about his candidate.
“People have been wonderful,” Garcetti told KNBC. “They open up their doors, they invite us into their living rooms. And I think they are impressed that we believe so much in Barack Obama that we’re willing to be here in this freezing weather.”
We hear it’s mighty cold there in Iowa, but from what Jeralyn at Talk Left reports on the ground there in Iowa, the candidates are not letting the cold keep them from making the rounds.
