Something Is Brewing for One Candidate… To Be Revealed Monday

January 2, 2008 9:15 pm
By

Joe Gandleman reported today on 2 emails that have been sent out to political bloggers, apparently, left, right and center, as I received them as well. The email says: One candidate is about to be challenged – with hard and cold facts, presented cogently by an author, former TV business news editor, decorated military hero and college political science instructor who shares this candidate’s party affiliation – and who has known the candidate personally since their college days. Next Monday,...

Rudy Airs Fear Mongering Ad and Obama Ad Shows Up On Drudge

January 2, 2008 8:08 pm

Rudy Giuliani has a new ad on the air in New Hampshire and Florida. It features footage of the Bhutto assassination and warns that “if we don’t vote for Rudy, we’ll be vulnerable to Osama Bin Laden, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the people who assassinated Benazir Bhutto, and every other radical Muslim villain out there.” This is the typical fear mongering, propaganda crap we’ve grown accustomed to from Rudy and it’s disgusting. And speaking of ads, somehow an Obama ad ended up...

Oil, Part 2

January 2, 2008 4:41 pm
By

As I noted here early this morning, the media was reporting “Cost of crude oil ends year 57 percent higher.” We’re all feeling the pinch. But that pinch is going to get worse and today, OIL hit $100 a barrel for the first time. Ouch! Crude oil futures for February delivery hit $100 on the New York Mercantile Exchange shortly after noon when a single trader bid up the price by buying a modest lot and then sold it...

Criminal Probe Opened over CIA Tapes

January 2, 2008 2:37 pm

The Justice Department announced today that they were opening ”a full criminal investigation“ into the “destruction of CIA interrogation videotapes, putting the politically charged probe in the hands of a mob-busting public corruption prosecutor with a reputation as being independent.” Attorney General Michael Mukasey announced that he was appointing John Durham, a federal prosecutor in Connecticut, to oversee the investigation of a case that has challenged the Bush administration’s controversial handling of terrorism suspects. The CIA acknowledged last month that in...

Dizzy’s Ten Post Round-Up: Happy New Year

January 2, 2008 10:01 am
By

So long, 2007. Hello, 2008. I am finally recovering from another wild New Year’s Eve. I finally made it home around 3:30AM! Just like last year, at the first annual New Year’s Eve party, I had to encourage the hostess that I really needed to get home and get my beauty rest, despite the fact that we were all having a lot of fun and didn’t want it to end. The first day of 2008 saw me dragging my...

Edwards Stakes a Position on Iraq on the Eve of Iowa Caucus

January 2, 2008 9:57 am
By

John Edwards has staked a claim on withdrawing from Iraq on the eve the Iowa caucus which clearly sets him apart from the two front-runners, Clinton and Obama. Edwards said in an interview on Sunday reported in the N.Y.Times today, that “if elected president he would withdraw the American troops who are training the Iraqi army and police as part of a broader plan to remove virtually all American forces within 10 months,” and he contended that “extending the...

Iowans: Keep Biden, Dodd and Ricardson in the Race

What if Iowa sent along all the candidates to NH with momentum? What if even the most partisan supporters of Clinton, Obama, and Edwards agreed to knowingly split their votes and keep the top 5 or 6 candidates in a near dead heat in the race? Joe Biden, Chris Dodd and Bill Richardson have shown their expertise, ability and experience. The latest numbers seem to indicate that about 135,000 caucus voters will decide the ‘momentum’ issue going into the...

Oil

January 2, 2008 12:19 am
By

In the news: Cost of crude oil ends year 57 percent higher. And we all feel the pain. Don’t get too comfortable with the prices however, word has it that it’s still on the rise: Oil prices ended the year near $96 a barrel, or 57 percent higher than where they began, and analysts expect rising demand and geopolitical instability to keep upward pressure on energy costs early in 2008. Thank the Resident and his party of obstructors who...
