Senate Republicans Fail in FISA Cloture Bid

TPMmuckracker reported earlier that “Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) cloture vote failed 48-45,” the vote was “well short of the 60 votes necessary.”

In the end, four Dems crossed over to vote with the Republicans: Sens. Mark Pryor (D-AR), Ben Nelson (D-NE), Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA). Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) was the lone Republican to vote with the Dems.[…]

Here’s the official tally.

Glenn Greenwald has the full doings on the Senate vote today, and there’s more at FireDogLake.

But, The Swamp wins the headline of the day: “What we do in the Senate . . . echoes in eternity!,” for casting Senator Christopher Dodd’s press release on the vote as “a (virtual) roar that Russell Crowe in Gladiator would appreciate, Dodd vowed to “continue to fight retroactive immunity with all the strength any one senator can muster.””
