She's asking valid questions that a lot of progressives would like answers to. It's not enough when this country is in such a mess to simply say we'll have unity and it will work again. I see nothing wqrong with asking a man who wants the support of the Democratic party how he will manage to unfiy with Republicans with out alienating progressives. Truth be known, I'm a very idealistic person, but my profound sense of realism has made me question wall of this and thus my support of Clinton. I don’t think Melissa is spinning anything. She’s asking valid questions that a lot of progressives would like answers to. He is not for politics as usual! In the seven year reign of King Bush, he has divided this country to a magnitude never witnessed before. He promised to be a, "Great Uniter" but instead was the consumate divider. Our reputation throughout the world is at an all time low!! Barack is saying that Bush's politics of division is so bad that, "much of the country has stopped even listening." I think all democrats agree with this. The TV ratings for Bush's final SOTU address were an all time low. He is asking us to imagine how different next year MIGHT be if " we had a president the entire nation could believe in." He is again speaking the language of "The Audacity of Hope" by asking us to imagine if we had a president who , "could rally ALL American's around a common purpose." Then in conclusion he has the total AUDACITY to say, "that's the kind of president I will be." Is this attacking Hillary? I just fail to see how Melissa, or anyone, can find these hopes offensive! Why must we preach the old sermon of division by saying that a progressive president can NEVER appeal to conservatives unless he or she pursues 'AN AGENDA WHICH WILL APPEAL TO THEM." Can we possibly have the faith that maybe, JUST MAYBE, we could elect a president who had the ability to foster a bi-partisanship which could draw Indepedents, Republicans, and Democrats closer than they have been in decades. I am not idealistic enough tp believe that all party differences will majically disappear. When John F. Kennedy was assissinated on Nov. 22, 1963, I was 18 years old. I remember it as if it was just yesterday. JFK was not a saint, but he had the uncanny ability to bring this nation together as one. WE WERE ALL PROUD NOT TO BE BLACK, WHITE, DEMOCRATS, REPUBLICANS, LIBERALS, OR CONSERVATIVES." JFK, like no president since, had the remarkable ability to make us see ourselves as just AMERICANS. His tragic death, set off a deep and profound sense of mourning. I was a sophmore at the University of Delaware. Young, old, black, and white, just sat on the ground crying uncontrollably! I am not making this up. IT HAPPENED! The entire world ground to a total halt! It pains me to read the comments of people like Melissa, who obviously feel that any candidate who talks about coming together, has a secret agenda to sell us out! To put Obama down for expressing a nobel vision of national unity is simply a disgrace. Can't each of us at least have a little, "Audacity of Hope." I am not trying to convince Hillary supporters to abandon their candidate. She too exhibits many excellent leadership qualities!!
