Feminism, and a Blues Apology

There is a lot of violence in the world, a lot of physical assault and murder, and a lot of hateful abuse. Many times folks on the left treat a statement like that as a picture of something far away, something going on in countries ruined by imperialism and corporate rapaciousness and other sinister institutional evils. Or it’s something that wardens to do inmates and cops do to protesters. Or the hateful abuse is something the right-wing does with...

Not Likely Push Polling

February 3, 2008 8:40 pm

The LA. Times set off a bit of a firestorm today claiming the Clinton campaign was “push polling” in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. Their tip on claimed “push polling” came from Ed Coghlan, “who’s a former news director for a local TV station.” Needless to say, bloggers piled on with the usual… Those dirty Clintons routine, they always use “underhanded tactics.”    But was it really “push polling”? “Not likely,” says Mark Blumenthal at Pollster.com: Sphere:...

The celebration of Blogroll Amnesty Day, that I posted about here yesterday, is sweeping across the blogosphere. Way to go, Skippy and Jon Swift! Wow, “Were Havin’ A Party ” and in honor of that, here’s Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes (one of my all time favs) on Imus from ’06, performing their hit “Were Havin’ A Party”: Taking a peek around at the blogs who have joined the effort, I’m going to do a round-up and include as...

John Edwards’ Approach to Economic Issues

February 3, 2008 1:16 pm

It took a small item in my January 28, 2008 issue of Business Week magazine to do it but I finally really get where John Edwards was coming from in his approach to economic issues affecting the middle class. There is nothing automatically shocking, I suppose, about the British being more affluent now than we are, but the fact that it has never happened in my life time still makes it a little hard for me to get my...

Patrick Healy has a piece in the N.Y. Times blog The Caucus about a press conference on the Clinton campaign plane over Arizona on Saturday night. Healy notes “one interesting comment” from the presser: She noted that at a conversation with a small group of voters in Los Angeles Saturday morning, no one brought up the Iraq war with her. “Voters don’t mention it to me anymore,” she said. “People have still the same level of concern and outrage about President...

Hillary Leading:Confirmed by Gallup, WaPo and Fox-Opinion Dynamics

WaPo-ABC’s latest national poll shows Hillary Clinton still leading, as she has for the last three weeks, by 4 points with undecideds at 5 points. Today’s WaPo headline, “Obama, Clinton Are Even In Poll”, however, is wrong in substance and tone. While the Clinton lead in this poll is within the margin of error, two additional national polls show stronger data. Substantiating her lead nationally among ‘likely Democratic voters and leaners’, a Gallup poll ending Feb 1 shows an...

Dizzy’s Ten Post Round-Up

I am so excited, I can hardly contain myself.  Today, is Super Bowl Sunday; the day when all the most funny commercials premiere on television!  I can’t wait to watch them. Oh…oh…oh…and the wardrobe malfunctions!  There’s another reason to watch the Superbowl? That’s right: The half-time show! There’s supposed to be a game or something going on, but I have no idea why they bother with that **wink**. In Iraq, the Super Bowl is one of the few things...
