More On Republicans for Obama

February 26, 2008 3:43 pm

Dallas News reports that early voters are swarming Texas. The other day I worte about the movement of some Texas Republicans who are planning to vote for Obama in the primary and then switch back to vote for McCain in general election. Some of us are concerned about this. The Houston Chronicle has a piece on this today. The gist of the story is many of these Republicans are voting for Obama, simply to make sure that “Hillary gets out.” Michael Jones,...

Superedelegates

If you haven’t seen this video of Hillary speaking at the Black State of the Union with Tavis Smiley, take a look. It explains the role of the super delegate better than anything I’ve seen. Hillary was, by the way, the only presidential candidate to speak at this event. Sphere: Related Content

Dizzy’s Ten Post Round-Up

I need a vacation. I don’t mean, jus’ some time off. I mean a real vacation, that starts with words like “Bahamas” or “Jamaica” and ends with me nodding off after drinking too many Mojitos. I just got done with what I like to call my “Anti-procrastination Week”. I mean, things had piled up so bad that I was seriously considering calling Merry Maids to clean up my house for me so I could actually get things done. It’s...

Thoughts on Costumegate

February 26, 2008 12:29 am

Jennifer Rubin noted on Commentary on Monday that Hillary Clinton “delivered (amidst the distraction of costume-gate, which makes me think this was not an official Clinton tactic) a foreign policy address in Washington D.C. today.” (see below) Kudos to Jennifer for getting it. There is no reason why the Clinton camp would thwart a big foreign policy speech. No reason what-so-ever. It’s commonsense 101. How many progressive bloggers missed the lesson from ’04? I certainly did not. Sphere: Related...

Hillary Clinton delivered a foreign policy speech at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. on Monday. Joining her at the speech were “a group of senior retired military and defense officials who have endorsed her to be this nation’s next Commander-in-Chief.” They included:  General Wesley Clark, Lt. General Joe Ballard, Major General Antonio M. Taguba, Rear Admiral David Stone, Brigadier General John M. Watkins, Jr. and former Secretary of the Army Togo West. Generals Taguba and Watkins will formally...

I’m a “Whiner”–and I Don’t Intend to Stop Whining

February 25, 2008 6:08 pm

This primary has demonstrated nothing if it has not demonstrated how Americans view misogyny as opposed to racism. Let me begin by stating that I know that the United States is a very racist nation, and nothing I am about to say should be interpreted to mean that I think racism is not a huge problem in our country. Bigotry of all types abound here–racism, misogyny, gay-hating (the term “homophobia” is just to soft for me), hatred of the...

Do Marketing and Branding “Create” The Candidate ?

February 25, 2008 3:34 pm
By

In the Jerome Armstrong post referenced by Pamela, a commenter says that ‘the worth of a candidate is measured partially by the effectiveness of their campaign’. The WORTH of a candidate is their campaign? Has the concept of ‘governance’ simply disappeared? Have we lost sight of the fact that the nominee must first win the goddamn election then govern? My gawd. Obama has done a masterful job of branding his candidacy without branding himself, as a person, as the...

What Jerome Said

February 25, 2008 2:19 pm
By

I’m posting lite today for a multitude of reasons including pressing business matters and the fact that I have grown weary and wary of the growing the divisions amongst progressive bloggers over this primary season. There’s a lot ugliness in the news and on the blogs today and a lot of speculation surrounding a piece on Drudge Report. I’m not going to get into analyzing it or it’s origins, I’m just going to say I agree with Jerome. I’m...
