Had he not been so self-righteous he might had survived. Even his own party leader called for him to step down yesterday. Talk about dumb. Also there's another angle on this story. He was turned in not by the wiretap but by currency transfers that were purely legal. Repeat legal but reported by the bank anyway. That lead to the wiretap etc. They alerted the authorities as a 'suspicious' transaction even if legal. In other words nothing we do or say is safe. Our email can be read. Our bank accounts searched. Our credit accessed...all without any recourse by us. Good night America, wherever you are.... I think government executives must be judged on not only is they made things better (Spitzer certainly did for Economic Crime as AG), but also if they made the job of their successor easier. He certainly empowered AGs all over the country, and he probably exposed some levers for the next governor to pull. Spitzer was certainly a net plus, and I'm not embarrassed to have supported him.
