McCain got blessed by being annointed early.

He has no money, he has no personality, and he doesn't have a clue about most things. He's ridden the POW pony until it's long past ready to drop. Starting in a couple of months he gets put on an even playing field for the first time and that will leave him so far behind so fast that even Bob Dole will look like a political genuis.

(For the kids out there, Bob Dole was the Republic who got his ass kicked by Bill Clinton in 1996.)

I don't think there is a question that Obama will get "the Hillary/Kerry/Gore" treatment should he be the nominee. What is impressive about Hillary is that she is right there in the thick of things. Obama, despite a press that is essentially a branch of his communications team, is not doing much better than Hillary who gets little non-hostile press.

And to answer the question, there's no question about it...Obama will not remain the media darling. But meanwhile, while MSNBC is ignoring this story, CNN is blaming Hillary for "over-reacting" to it and even Fox News, while mentioning that Obama was fundraisinf didn't put the remarks in their full context...that he was fundraising on Billionaire Row.

Check out the photos. Some intrepid reporters still exist:

The context, all the Obamafans are always screaming!

Well, let's take the context of this gaffe: he was explaining the bitterness of poor small town folk to..... all the millionaires on Billionaire Row in San Francisco during his super-secret mega-fundraising drive.

No media, no advance notice to all the little people of San Francisco because we wouldn't want them to get the idea that all those millions might not REALLY come from tiny donations from regular people, would we? They might get bitter at being deceived!

Is this what "we are who we have been waiting for" means? It will be interesting to see how the people in PA vote on the 22nd. Open mouth, insert foot.

from swimming freestyle:

"Barack Obama is a remarkably eloquent man and turning into a remarkably capable politician. But if the Senator believes it's smart to insult voters from a state critical to your success, he's hit one of the worst false notes yet in his campaign.

Yeah, I know what his campaign said, and that may have been what he meant. But a sophisticated candidate doesn't refer to voters in language that can be construed as derogatory or insulting. Obama asserted Pennsylvania voters are bitter and so simple and lacking in maturity and intelligence that they address their frustration by clinging to primitive and reactionary crutches rather than addressing their problems in constructive ways.

It's divisive. And not the way to attract the voters you need most."

Obama on small-town PA: Clinging to religion, guns, xenophobia

Huffpo's Mayhill Fowler has more from Obama's remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser Sunday, and they include an attempt to explain the resentment in small-town Pennsylvania that won't be appreciated by some of the people whose votes Obama's seeking:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
