The Most Unpopular President in Modern History

by Pamela Leavey

There you have it: “A new poll suggests that George W. Bush is the most unpopular president in modern American history.”

Yep… It’s true… “A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Thursday indicates that 71 percent of the American public disapprove of how Bush his handling his job as president.”

No president has ever had a higher disapproval rating in any CNN or Gallup poll; in fact, this is the first time that any president’s disapproval rating has cracked the 70 percent mark,” said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

“Bush’s approval rating, which stands at 28 percent in our new poll, remains better than the all-time lows set by Harry Truman and Richard Nixon (22 percent and 24 percent, respectively) but even those two presidents never got a disapproval rating in the 70s,” Holland added. “The previous all-time record in CNN or Gallup polling was set by Truman, 66 percent disapproval in January 1952.”

CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider adds, “He is more unpopular than Richard Nixon was just before he resigned from the presidency in August 1974.” President Nixon’s disapproval rating in August 1974 stood at 67 percent.

The new poll also shows that “support for the war in Iraq has never been lower.”

Thirty percent of those questioned favored the war while 68 percent opposed the conflict.

Speaking of Iraq… “Five years ago, President Bush declared the mission in Iraq accomplished.”

George W. Bush will leave behind one hell of a whopping mess next January. Let’s make sure we have a new president that can handle the job.

  1. So 71 percent dissapprove of the job George W. Bush is doing as President. His dissapproval rating will go higher and it should. Look at what he has done, the Iraq War, gas prices, the economy, health care, prescription drugs ,education., and the enviroment. He said if he could wave a wand he would change things,he already waved it, thats why we are where we are now.
Bush- Cheney is the most corrupt adminstration in history and they started this by stealing an election in 2000 and stole another in 2004.

  2. In 1975, a poll said that only a quarter of the American people admitted to voting for Richard Nixon in the previous election. I wonder where Kerry would be today, 65%?

  3. It’s funny.

This Jackass Bush really believes that after he leaves office, he will earn $Millions on the “Speaking Circuit”.

Personally, I would have to be paid (and quite handsomely at that) to actually attend a Bush “Speaking Event”.

This guy just keeps getting weirder and weirderer.

  4. Yeah! What would he say that anyone would care about?

Every time I’ve seen him speak over the past eight years his general demeanor has been “I’m the President, so, therefore, whtever I say matters.” Except for that the few memorable moments have been memorable for their being awful.
