On The Road Again…. Barack Obama’s been on the road for so damn long now he can’t remember how many states there are in America:
Obviously Obama’s “tired” — who wouldn’t be after months of campaigning. Marc Ambinder thinks if John McCain had said it, the “media would be all up in his grill, accusing him of a senior moment.” Maybe… It just seems like 50 states is a number that is ingrained in everyone’s memory though…
But as the LA Times Blog, Top Of The Ticket explains, Obama’s was quick to explain aways his gaffe later in the day:
At a later stop Obama was talking with reporters and expressed concern he’d also mis-stated the number of potential cyclone victims in Burma. He said, “”I hope I said 100,000 people the first time instead of 100 million. I understand I said there were 57 states today. It’s a sign that my numeracy is getting a little, uh.” At that point, an aide cut him off and ushered journalists out. Before he could mis-speak again?
It’s certainly not a fatal campaign gaffe on Obama’s part, but it makes for some blogospheric conversation on a Friday… There’s discussion primarily from the wingnut faction of the Sphere at: Power Line, Althouse, Classical Values, The New Editor, Macsmind, Weekly Standard Blog, Instapundit.com, American Power, JustOneMinute, Ed Driscoll.com, TigerHawk, NewsBusters.org, The Impolitic, The Moderate Voice and TalkLeft.
Oh… and speaking of Friday news, incase you missed it while Obama was getting the number of states in the U.S. wrong today, apparently there was an Obama Policy Train Wreck happening too. More fuel for the wingnut fire.
