The global economic system, unguided by mandates and incentives formed in response to political policy, can only allocate resources on the basis of "supply and demand". The "invisible hand" would be quite content to let this supply/demand imbalance rectify itself by having the poorest die off from starvation, and supply being brought in line that way. Sadly no one on the world political front is talking about creating mechanisms through which world problems and be addressed through world solutions. A tall order to be sure and I can see only one person with the intellectual capacities for that and ready to roll up her sleeves and get stuff done.
