Buying an iBond and Remembering FDR

Cross-Posted on Stock Picks Bob’s Advice: A few days ago I discussed how I was looking into an iBond. So I visited my local Wells Fargo Bank and purchased a $5,000 bond for a long-term investment. And the more I thought about, the more I became perplexed about this new limit on individual savings bond purchases each year. As reported by Chris Farrell on American Public Media “Marketplace”: “I think it’s a terrible move. Here’s the breakdown: Savers can...

Kerry Questions McCain’s Grasp of Facts on Iraq, Criticizes McCain’s Use of Petraeus Photo

Earlier today on a Obama campaign conference call with reporters Senator John Kerry questioned ”Republican presumptive nominee John McCain’s judgment and grasp of the facts about what’s going on Iraq.” Yesterday, McCain said that U.S. forces in Iraq have “drawn down to pre-surge levels.” Kerry, citing figures that show the opposite, skewered his friend, fellow Vietnam War veteran and someone who had been talked about as a possible bi-partisan running mate of Kerry’s in 2004. The Massachusetts senator said he has “serious...

Obama Gets More Flack As A One Man Gaffe Machine

As we discussed earlier today, Obama is finally getting some detailed Traditional Media attention. The WSJ says today: As smart and credentialed as he is, Sen. Obama is often an indifferent speaker without a teleprompter. He has large gaps in his knowledge base, and is just as likely to dig in and embrace a policy misstatement as abandon it. ABC reporter Jake Tapper calls him “a one-man gaffe machine.” (emphasis mine) The author, John Fund, goes on to say:...

No New Style Politics In Obama’s Playbook

May 29, 2008 11:47 pm

There’s really no “new style politics” in Barack Obama’s playbook. Some of us have been saying this for months now. CNN catches on, finally, on the eve the Democratic National Committee meeting Saturday, which is scheduled to attempt to settle “the thorny issue of seating the Florida and Michigan delegations at its August convention.” At the meeting on Saturday, “party officials will have to fashion a solution that satisfies supporters of Sen. Hillary Clinton and presidential nominee front-runner Sen....

Political Listening…To Other Democrats

On 6-17-2005, I was already dismayed enough by the increasingly angry disagreements within the Progressive Blogsphere that I wrote an article about effective persuasion, communication and it’s impact on campaigns at my old blog The Political Dogfight. I also recorded a more detailed view in a 10 minute audio that was published at my audio blog The Insurgent Political Campaign . (That blog was devoted to methods of creating campaigns in Red Districts.) The fierce, deeply divided reality of...

Judge Annulls Marriage Because Wife is Not A Virgin

May 29, 2008 10:20 pm

Yup, you read that right and it happened in France, via Le Monde . So here is the story: this Muslim guy marries a young woman who told her she was a virgin. On the wedding night, he discovers – shock and horror – that she is not. The guy brings the daughter back to her now dishonored family. Then, he hires a attorney to get the marriage annulled (no divorce because, as the attorney puts it, divorce implies...
