Live Blogging Hillary’s Speech

The Clinton campaign told CNN that “6,000 people signed up on the New York senator’s Web site to attend the speech.” Here we go…

I couldn’t get the sound to work on, so I missed the beginning of Hillary’s speech. Watching on C-Span now:

“I ask all of you to join me in working as hard for Barack Obama as you have worked for me.” I have seen his strength and determination… He has dedicated himself to ensure that dream is realized.”

“The Democratic family is a family and now is the time to come together… We all want an economy that sustains the American Dream… We all want a healthcare system that is unversal… This is a fight I will continue to fight until I ensure that every American is insured…”

Hillary says she’s been involved in politics for 40 years. We’ve had only had 3 wins for Democratic presidents in those 40 years – the man that won two is with us today — Bill Clinton.”

Today I am standing with Barack Obama to say, “YES WE CAN.”

“We need to help elect Barack Obama our president.”

Hillary’s listing reasons why we must “help elect Barack Obama our president” from healthcare, the economy, the Iraq war.”

Paraphrasing here… We answered the question could a women really serve as commander in chief. Could an African American really serve as president – “Barack Obama answered that one.”

Hillary now talking about running as a woman, women’s rights, “equal opportunities. equal pay and equal respect.”

“There are no acceptable limits and there are no acceptable prejudices in the 21st century.”

“To those who are disappointed.. It would break my heart if in anyway I have discouraged any of you… if stumble… always get back up and never listen to anyone who says to you, you can’t go on.”

“If we can blast 50 women into space we will some days launch a woman in the White House. If weren’t able to break that glass ceiling this time, thanks to you it has 18 million cracks in it.”

“When you hear people saying or think to yourself, what if… I say don’t go there, every moment looking back keeps us from moving forward…”

“That is why I will work my heart out to make sure that Barack Obama is our next president… and I hope that all of you will join me in that effort… ”

Hillary thanks her supporters, her family – Bill, Chelsea and her mother, her staff…

“Today I’m going to count my blessing and keep going… I will do it with a heart filled with gratitude… This is now our time to do all that we can, to make sure that in this election we add another Democratic president to that very short list in the last 40 years…”

“Thank you all and God Bless America…”

C-Span is still rolling as the Clinton’s make their way through the crowd to greet supporters… there are many cries of “we love you Hillary” and “thank you for everything.”

CNN has lot’s of full quotes from Hillary’s speech — I’ll post the text when it’s available and hopefully a video too.

I hope all DD readers live up to the spirit of grace and unity of the stateswoman I once supported. We each need to be Democrats Daily. Together we can give Obama 60 senators and a farm team of state legislators, mayors, etc to sustain this realignment.

I will only vote for a ticket that includes Hillary R. Clinton. If necessary, I intend to write in her name for President of the United States.

Since the early 1960s, I have supported and voted for progressive causes and candidates. I am disgusted with the Democratic Party, beginning with Pelosi, Reid, and Dean.
