Will Obama Name Bayh As His VP Choice on Wednesday?

The rumor mill is buzzing tonight that Barack Obama will name Evan Bayh as his VP choice on Wednesday in Indiana. First up with the buzz is Bil Browning of The Bilerico Project who said today:

I’m going to put my neck out on the line by making a prediction. Barack Obama will announce his vice-presidential choice Wednesday morning. It will be Indiana Senator Evan Bayh.

Bil has 5 reasons why he’s sticking his neck out with the big prediction and the last one is this:

I just got an invite from the Obama campaign to attend an appearance on Wednesday that isn’t on Obama’s official calendar. Why not? The campaign said, “I can’t tell you what the event is about, but we want to make sure you have a ticket so you can cover it for the Bilerico Project. We want Bilerico Project to be there for this one.”

Next, Politico reports:

Sen. Evan Bayh’s staff softball team, The Bayh Partisans, has cancelled the game it had scheduled for tomorrow evening with the drug policy team The One Hitters. Bayh staffer Jonathan Stahler sent One Hitter team captain Kris Krane an e-mail Monday morning citing “[t]oo many people out of town” as the reason for the cancellation.

Rational minds may note that it is early August, a time when congressional staffers often head of town. Other minds, however, might ponder the fact that Bayh, a top veep prospect, is scheduled to introduce Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) at a rally in Bayh’s home state of Indiana Wednesday.

And last but not least, Jeralyn at TalkLeft adds this:

Team captain and SSDP executive director Kris Krane and SSDP‘s Government Relations Director Tom Angell think something is up and there could be a big announcement Wednesday by Obama and Bayh.

Since Tom thought it important enough to e-mail me about it, which he only does with big news, I’m thinking there may be something to this.

For what it’s worth, I think Evan Bayh is a solid choice.

Will the predictions be right? Time will tell… I hope Bil Browning is right, it’s always a treat when the blogosphere scoops the media. Stay tuned

Having Bayh as the VP candidate would be handing the election to McCain.  Outside of Indianna and DC has anyone ever heard of him? Biden, Clinton, Nunn, or Richardson would each be a much better choice. I can’t believe he would flush his chances away with Bayh.

  2. I tend to agree with you, Tom.  He needs someone with name recognition.  Or, he could go with a different female, if he didn’t want Hillary.  The female might also not have name recogition,  but her gender might sway some of the disenchanted Hillary fans his way.  I had heard that the Govenor of Kansas was a female, who was politically savy.  I wonder why her name has never been on his list?   A male pick needs name regognition.  A female pick would most likely assure him a victory.  (first black and first female!)   Buzz

I agree.  Sen. Bayh would be a disaster.  Unlike his father, this Sen. Bayh is a DINO.  Sen. Obama has already indicated just how right he is going to be, so another right-wing Democrat won’t help much.
