When I was in the Air Force, I was told I couldn’t even donate to a school board race. As happy as I am with the news, politicizing the troops is not a good precedent. I hope the Obama folks don’t play this up. We certainly would want a Republican doing it if the shoe was on the other foot.

I think it is important to look as clearly as possible at where prejudice really exists. It is good news for the Democratic agenda that our military are supporting Obama, but we have no evidence that they have failed to leave their Republican habits in greater numbers because of race prejudice. On the other hand, it seems there is good reason to believe that gender prejudice is widespread. Military leaders who knew Hillary’s work in helping the military endorsed her in large numbers. But the amount of contributions by military personell to her campaign was pitifully small. Every Republican in the race received far more than she did, in spite of the fact that so many military leaders agreed with her plan to get us out of Iraq asap. We need to work at arousing consciousness of automatic prejudice against a woman as commander-in-chief.

Sadly, I am still amazed and appalled at the number of troops who can still justify a vote for McCain (merely because he’s former military or because he’s NOT Obama aka “that black guy”). I have to resist the urge to scream when I hear that nonsense.
