Given I know and respect Rick Warren if he was 'startled' at the idea or news that McCain was NOT in his 'cone of silence' then I believe him.
Why? Because, with his church growing so quickly, he came to rely on staff and other church ministers to literally administer much of the church. He simply did not have time.

If there was an error in the 'forum' it was not having both candidates on the property at the same time before the event began. Also taking all comm devices from them would have been a good idea.

At any rate, McCain's performance wasn't on the substance of the questions but using the narrative format I discussed in my own post.
If this was a screw up it was one that was unknown by Warren.

IMHO
