Sen. Edward Kennedy is expected to make a dramatic appearance Monday night at the Democratic National Convention, his office said, marking his second public appearance since brain surgery in June.
It is unclear whether he will make a speech at the convention, which got under way Monday evening. […]
Kennedy’s appearance Monday comes against the advice of his associates, a Democratic source close to the Kennedy family said.
The 76-year-old liberal icon was “itching to go and pushing back” at those who said the trip was too risky to make, the source said. […]
With the exception of one return to the Capitol for a crucial vote, he has been out of the public eye recuperating.
The official program calls for a videotaped message from Kennedy as part of a tribute to him because of the earlier belief he would not be up to traveling to Denver.
I just received this email from Senator Kennedy’s email list announcing that Caroline Kennedy will introduce a special video tribute to Kennedy tonight. It seems unclear as to whether Kennedy will indeed be speaking:
Tonight in Denver, at about 7:15 PM Mountain Time, Caroline Kennedy will introduce to the Democratic National Convention a special video tribute to my husband Ted. Since you are one of Ted’s most loyal supporters, I want to be sure that you know about this special evening so you can tune in to watch.
Ted is eager to get back on the campaign trail, to elect Barack Obama as President, build a stronger Democratic majority in the Senate, and put America back on track. We’re looking forward to working with you once again to make that happen.
Victoria Reggie Kennedy
Senator Kennedy remains in our prayers here at The Dem Daily. I’ll be tuning in to watch the tribute to the great Liberal Lion of the Senate and I hope readers will too.
