The Republican Strategy for Voter Suppression in Ohio!

There has been a lot of discussion on the MSM about ACORN and alleged voter registration fraud.

But that is small potatoes.  Some may wish you to pay attention to fake names getting registered but that is not about voting fraud.  It was registration fraud and nobody contends these fake people ever were intended to vote.  This is about homeless and lower income people writing down fake names to make a nickel in a fraud against ACORN.

The bigger story is about voter suppression.  You know, where thousands of people are denied the right to legitimately vote at all.  Names are stripped from lists of voters.  And provisional ballots are issued likely to never be counted.

Sort of like what happened in Ohio in 2004.

So why not do it in Ohio again?

That’s what the 6th Circuit Court has enabled today in requiring voter checks of new registrations.  It isn’t really a big task is it?  Just 666,000 Ohioans that need to have their new registration checked in the next, let’s see what is it, in the next 21 days?

As reported in this article:

“About 666,000 Ohioans have registered to vote since January, with many doing so before the contested Democratic primary election last March between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Since then, Ohio Republicans have filed a series of challenges to the registrations and Brunner’s administration of election rules. They have helped voters file lawsuits against local boards of election over registration rules, absentee ballot requests and a weeklong period that allowed registration and voting on the same day.

Brunner previously said there was no way to set up the system with such speed.

Last week, a three-judge panel of the 6th Circuit had sided with Brunner, but after hearing an appeal the full panel sided with the GOP and U.S. District Judge George C. Smith in Columbus. Smith had ordered Brunner to develop a way to verify voter registration information and make it available to local election boards.

Brunner argued that it would take two to three days to create the necessary computer programs, and said nothing in the federal Help America Vote Act required her to do what the district court ordered.

Tuesday’s order directs Brunner to verify new registrations by comparing that information with data from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles or the Social Security Administration.

Ohio Republican Chairman Bob Bennett accused Brunner of pursuing a partisan agenda and said “her delay in providing this matching system leaves little time for election officials to act on questionable registrations.”

Bennett said Brunner was destroying the public’s trust in Ohio’s elections system.

“Her shameful actions to disenfranchise Republican absentee voters, block the transparency of early voting and refuse the proper verification of newly registered voters have rightfully damaged her credibility as a nonpartisan election administrator,” he said.”

How cute.  The Republican accusing the Democrat of trying to disenfranchise Republicans when that is clearly what THEY are doing.  So Orwellian.  So cute.

And who are these Judges who voted for this strange and logic-defying decision just days before the election?

First of all, who is Justice George C. Smith of the United States District Court of the Southern District of Ohio?  Born in 1935, this 73 (?) year old judge was appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1987.

And the other judges?  Who voted which way and who appointed them?

According to the pdf of the case, it was Sutton, Boggs, Batchelder, Gilman, Gibbons, Cook, McKeague, Griffin, and Kethledge voting “for”.

And Moore, Martin, Daughtrey, Cole, and Clay, voting “dissenting”.

Let’s see now WHO appointed these judges?  Oh why should that matter you ask?

Just suppose there is politics afoot here.  The decision smells of something rotten to me.

According to the Wikipedia list of members of the 6th Court of Appeals,

Sutton–G.W. Bush, Boggs–Reagan, Batchelder–G.H.W. Bush, Gilman–Clinton (the only Clinton appointee voting “for”), Gibbons–G.W.Bush, Cook–G.W. Bush, McKeague–G.W.Bush, Griffin–G.W.Bush, and Kethledge–G.W.Bush.

And the “dissent”?  Moore–Clinton, Daughtrey–Clinton, Cole–Clinton, Clay–Clinton.

Do you see a pattern here?  The Republicans have succeeded in their appointments of Judges who vote to suppress while only the Democratic appointees are voting on behalf of voters to insure the right to vote.

Makes me sick.

There are so many reasons that the Democrats need to assume the office of the President of the United States.

We cannot even have fair elections with these guys calling the shots and denying voters the right to vote.

There is so much change we need in America!

And Yes We Can!  And Must!

Judge White is a Democrat appointed by Bush as a political deal with the now Democratic controlled Senate. Get the facts first.
