Barack Suffers A Loss That Can’t Be Won Back

By: Stuart O'Neill

I just watched, on MSNBC, a North Carolina speech by Barack Obama. It was the first time that Barack Obama had spoken of the passing of his beloved grandmother, who was a groundbreaker in her own right in Hawaii, early this morning. It was, as said by Pat Buchanan, ‘emotional, moving and authentic.’

Obama said, “She’s gone home. My sister was by her side.” He spoke movingly of the fathers, mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers who have had a daily fight and sacrifice that has helped, decades later, their children, grandchildren and, yes, their great-grandchildren live a better life.

I’ve tried unsuccessfully to find his comments in video. UPDATE: The Video has been found thanks to Daily Kos.

It was a moving tribute not only to his grandmother but to all the people in our own families that have paved the way for us. It certainly hit very close to home for me.

I’ll use Barack Obama’s own tribute to close: ‘She’s gone home.’
