And So We Begin A Chapter

And so, we begin a new chapter in American history today… One that is filled with the promise of change and new beginnings that clearly offer more hope than America has seen in a very long time. The long collective American nightmare known as the presidency of George W. Bush is over. Bush’s reign has been a long “tragedy of errors,” that has left far too many Americans broke and battered and yet, so many now emerge with the hope...

Thank YOU

Thank YOU

As they say, my work here is done. My blogging began as a campaign blog in the 2004 Oregon Democratic primary (the centennial of the first primary election in the USA in Oregon) against cronyism, cheating, lying, well, the usual. And campaign finances: My opponent received over 92% of his cash from out of district, and over 75% from out of state. The blog began because the Oregon media was completely uninterested in those hard numbers, but voters were...

Alrighty Now! It’s Time To Watch History

It’s been a long time coming. I didn’t think, frankly, it could be done. What things? I honestly underestitmated America and didn’t think an African-American could be elected. I honestly wasn’t sure that we could end this long national nightmare. We could end the Bush Presidency. I knew that reality. But could we start over? Could we heal and become the America we always wanted and some of us spent a lifetime trying to achieve? But could we rebirth...

I was away from the computer all day and before turning in to get a good night’s sleep on the last night of the 8 year nightmare, I wanted to post this video of Obama’s speech at the “We Are One” Celebration on Sunday: Thank God the nightmare ends with Obama’s swearing in! Sphere: Related Content

A Long Time Comin’

I meant to post about today’s Inagural Concert on the Mall earlier but got waylaid and didn’t get around to it. I watched most of the concert in between getting caught up on some work. Although I am big Bruce Springsteen and U2 fan, this was one of my favorite performances today, Bettye LaVette and Jon Bon Jovi singing Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come“: The WaPo has a long piece on the concert, that is worth a...

Obama’s ‘New Declaration of Independence’

By Hank Edson  If you are a frequent reader of the Democratic Daily, you know that on election night, November 4, 2008, I published my first book, The Declaration of the Democratic Worldview, a sequel to The Declaration of Independence.  That night I also posted the preface to my book on this site.  If you’d like a copy, you can get one at: http://democracypress.net.  I dedicated my Declaration to Barack Obama and added this thought: History will honor the...

From the Hudson to the Potomac: Hope and Courage for a Depressed Nation

The people are good at anointing who they believe are heroes. It gives us a warm and fuzzy feeling to know there are those among us who do extraordinary things, often at the risk of their own lives.     But, if you ask the true heroes, most will just say they were doing their job or doing something that needed to be done.     Chesley B. (Sully) Sullenberger, who ditched his aircraft in the Hudson on Thursday, is by...

The Boss Warms Up

The Boss, Bruce Springsteen was caught on warming up at Lincoln Memorial for tomorrow’s big “welcome concert on the Mall”: Other performers for the free concert tomorrow were also warming up today, including John Mellencamp, Stevie Wonder, Beyonce and Mary J. Blige. The WaPo reports that “HBO purchased the rights to air Sunday’s all-star kickoff concert at the Lincoln Memorial, which Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden will attend.” The concert, featuring the musical stylings of Beyoncé, U2, Bruce Springsteen and...
