The chorus of calls for Senator Roland Burris to step down are growing louder and adding insult to injury today his spokesman stepped down. Jason Erkes said in a written statement to CNN: “I initially began helping the senator on a temporary basis because he is a long-term friend who I served several years when he was attorney general. ”It is now time for me to get back to focusing on … my newly formed strategic communications business.” Things...

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius who was an early Obama supporter is apparently President Obama’s top pick now for Secretary of health and human services. If Sebelius is nominated she brings “eight years of experience as her state’s insurance commissioner as well as six years as a governor running a state Medicaid program.” The NY Times reports, with “President Obama about to begin a drive to expand health coverage, an issue on which the two parties have deep ideological divisions,...

North Dakota Bans Abortion

Well, not really. Or, not yet. The state’s House of Representatives has, by a margin of 51-41, voted “to declare that a fertilized egg has all the rights of any person,” according to local KXNet. In other words, the House has effectively voted to ban abortion, given that abortion would be murder. The bill now moves to the Senate. Bill sponsor Dan Ruby — a Republican, of course — claims that the legislation is compatible with Roe v. Wade,...

The Federal Reserve painted a really bleak picture on Wednesday, hours after President Obama announced his plan to help homeowners, one day after he signed the Stimulus Bill: Under the new projections, the unemployment rate will rise to between 8.5 and 8.8 percent...

On Tuesday after President Obama signed the stimulus bill, General Motors and Chrysler jumped up and asked the federal government for another another $14 billion in bailout funds. In return for more bailout from the goverment, both companies “promised to make further drastic cuts to all parts of their operations, in the hope that they can eventually strike a balance between their bloated cost structures and a dismal market for new car sales.” G.M. announced they would “cut 47,000...
