firstpuppyThe identity of the First Puppy leaked yesterday and everyone wanted to know, “Who let the dog out?

The puppy, a “6-month-old Portuguese water dog given to the Obama girls as a gift by that Portuguese water dog-lovin’ senator himself, Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts.’

The Obama girls have named their puppy “Bo,” because, “their cousins have a cat named Bo and because first lady Michelle Obama’s father was nicknamed Diddley, a source said. (Get it? Bo . . . Diddley?)”

The Kennedys said in a statement: “We couldn’t be happier to see the joy that Bo is bringing to Malia and Sasha. We love our Portuguese Water Dogs and know that the girls — and their parents — will love theirs too.”

bo-firstpuppyBo is just the cutest puppy I have seen in some time.

AP News reports that “White House aides told the AP that the office of the first lady arranged an exclusive deal on the dog story” with the Washington Post.

And, the White House officials said ”Bo” was not in residence at “the White House as of Saturday evening.”

It’s unclear whether “Bo” arrived at the White House in an Easter Basket.
