Gardening with First Lady Michelle Obama

I grew up with a large vegetable garden (which was all organic) in our yard in West Newbury, Massachusetts. Every year my father would till the soil and we would all go out and help with the planting, weeding and then when the time came, the picking. The memories of the taste of the just picked vegetables is still ingrained in my mind and now that I have moved back to rural New England, I am anxiously awaiting the...

Kerry Calls for Pirate Hearings

On Wednesday, I noted here on The Dem Daily that pirates had seized an American ship off the coast of Somalia. The crew of the ship “later overpowered some of the pirates,” but Capt. Richard Phillips of Underhill, Vt. ”surrendered himself to the bandits to safeguard his men, and four of the Somalis fled with him to an enclosed lifeboat.” Phillips is still being held by the pirates.   On Thursday the U.S. “brought in FBI hostage negotiators to work with...

Conservative Tag Team of the Day

The Conservative Tag Team of the Day award goes to Karl Rove and Rick Santorum: Karl Rove claims today that Obama “Has Become a Divisive Figure,” leading me to wonder is he channeling the opinion of his former boss and trying to pin it on Obama, because George W. Bush was one of the most, if not the most divisive presidents in history. And then there’s Rick Santorum who said in an Op/Ed today that Obama is “contemptuous of American values.”...

The NRO is worried about “The Future Of Marriage.” And then there’s “The Gay Marriage Fantasy.” Goodness… I feel sorry for these conservatives who harbor such bigotry.

Bloggers Revolt Over Ad Money

Ad revenue is down given the economy and some of the top liberal bloggers including Jane Hamsher of FireDogLake and Markos Moulitsas, the founder of DailyKos, spoke out on the record today about the fact that some “major progressive groups— and in some cases, the Democratic Party committees” have been ”failing to spend money advertising” on the blogs “even as these groups constantly ask the bloggers for free assistance in driving their message.” It’s a problem. Bloggers are inundated, day in and...

Pirates on the High Seas

I’ve been working on a redesign of my business websites and juggling a few other things this week and I’m posting sporadically, but I wanted to note briefly on the news of the pirates seizing the American ship today off the coast of Somalia. The ship was on its way ”to the Kenyan port of Mombasa and was carrying food and other agricultural materials” for the World Food Program. The pirating off the coast of Africa is becoming more and more...

Ted Kennedy Throws Red Sox First Pitch

It was opening day for the Red Sox today and Senator Ted Kennedy threw out the first pitch: Mother Nature had her way with Opening Day plans at Fenway Park on Monday, but under clear Boston skies Tuesday, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy took to the mound to throw out the first pitch at the makeup game. Kennedy, 77, who has been away from the Senate most of the past several months as he undergoes treatment for brain cancer, tossed...

Note to Norm

Note to Norm Coleman… Give it up: Democrat Al Franken yesterday increased his small lead over Republican Norm Coleman in the protracted dispute over the race for a U.S. Senate seat representing Minnesota, but it remains unclear when the five-month legal battle will end. It’s time for Norm to concede. In fact it’s way overdue. Sphere: Related Content
