Must Read of the Day

Frank Rich on why the Obama administration must persue a “truth commission” on torture and the Bush administration: TO paraphrase Al Pacino in “Godfather III,” just when we thought we were out, the Bush mob keeps pulling us back in. And will keep doing so. No matter how hard President Obama tries to turn the page on the previous administration, he can’t. Until there is true transparency and true accountability, revelations of that unresolved eight-year nightmare will keep raining...

Michelle Obama Urges Graduates to Give Back

First Lady Michelle Obama spoke to graduates at California’s smallest, youngest public university, UC Merced on Saturday and praised them “for their struggle to succeed.” Obama urged the ”jubilant members of her audience to give back to their communities.” Students at UC Merced “bombarded the first lady’s office with letters, e-mails and even hundreds of Valentine’s cards in a nonstop campaign to get her to speak at graduation,” and “it worked.” Sphere: Related Content

The Dick Cheney Magical Mystery Media Tour

Dick Cheney has apparently been on a magical mystery media tour. He has sought out and been interviewed by more TV journalists and talk show hosts during the past month than during the eight years he was vice president. The topic is always the same. Torture was done during the Bush-Cheney Administration, and it was effective. Persons held at Guantanamo Bay are evil and should never be released. President Obama’s actions are a threat to national security. Cheney claims...

Dems to Develop Plan to Sell Health Care

May 14, 2009 12:18 am

With some 46 million or more Americans with out health care coverage, we still need to “sell” this? Well with criticism coming from “Republican members of Congress and Republican consultants like Frank I. Luntz, an expert on the language of politics,” apparently we do, still need to “sell health care” to Americans. Sphere: Related Content

Obama to Host Poetry Party at White House

How wonderful it is to have a president in the White House that appreciates culture: It is a jam, not a slam. President Barack Obama and his cabinet colleagues were today preparing for the first White House poetry party. Consolidating his reputation for cool after his performance as a stand-up comic on Saturday night, Obama has invited poets and writers, backed by jazz musicians, to perform in the east room tonight. It was originally billed as a poetry slam...

Retail Sales Fall in April

May 13, 2009 10:01 am

As a wholesale supplier of natural bath and body products to small retailers, I wasn’t at all surprised to read the news this morning that “Retail sales fell for a second straight month in April.” The Commerce Department said Wednesday that retail sales fell 0.4 percent last month, much worse than the flat reading economists expected. The April weakness followed a 1.3 percent drop in March that was worse than first estimated. Cottage industries like my own have taken...

Conservative Fiction

Oh my… Sarah Palin is penning her memoir: “There’s been so much written about and spoken about in the mainstream media and in the anonymous blogosphere world, that this will be a wonderful, refreshing chance for me to get to tell my story, that a lot of people have asked about, unfiltered,” the Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate said during a brief telephone interview Tuesday with The Associated Press. Unfiltered. Uh… Huh. Sphere: Related Content

Here We Go Again

Social Security. Democrats who thought the Obama Administration wouldn’t go here – were wrong – apparently. Reportedly the “recession” is draining both Social Security and Medicare. This should be an interesting debate… again. And it’s Just in Time for the Health Reform Debate…. At least I would have more faith in some reform from Obama and the Dems in Congress, than I would have a few years ago when Bush was putting the fear of no Social Security into the masses....
