A New Senior Senator: For Kerry, The Mission is Redefined

Kerry, speaking in a telephone interview after visiting the Kennedy compound on Cape Cod late yesterday, sounded emotional as he described Kennedy’s impact on his life and his training as a legislator.

“Obviously, Ted Kennedy has had a huge influence on my thoughts about politics, and being a student of his for 25 years is a lot of learning,’’ Kerry said. “Sometimes I’ve been a better student than at other times, but I think I understand what the mission is now. Ted has set a powerful example for every one of us in the delegation to be as strong a legislator as you can be.’’
