Former President Bill Clinton was taken to a New York City hospital today after experiencing chest pains. His office said that Clinton underwent a heart procedure.

Doctors inserted two stents into his native coronary artery after one of the bypass grafts from an operation five years ago became obstructed.

“President Clinton is in good spirits and will continue to focus on the work of his foundation and Haiti’s relief and long-term recovery efforts,” his counselor, Douglas J. Band, said in a statement released by the former president’s office.

Clinton has a history of heart problems. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton left Washington D.C. today to be with Clinton in New York. She was scheduled to travel to Qatar and Saudi Arabia this weekend and attend the US-Islamic World Forum, but it is reported that her trip will be delayed.
