A Washington political action committee says it buying TV air time to run ads to highlight Rep. Roy Blunt’s voting record on issues that affect children in Missouri. The conservative Republican lawmaker is leaving the House to run for an open Senate seat from the Show Me State. The Vote Kids Action Fund (VKAF), a federal independent expenditure PAC, says it purchased broadcast and cable air time in Missouri for a first round of the advertising, which may continue...

October 5, 2010 6:32 pm

The campaign operation for Senate Democrats released a fundraising appeal seeking donations to counter two developing Republican ad buys. Meanwhile, campaign watchdog groups asked the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to investigate one of the rightwing groups funding attacks against Democratic candidates. The email from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) seeks funds to hit back at top Bush-era White House aide Karl Rove’s American Crossroads group spending another $4.2 million into eight key Senate races, including Nevada, Illinois, and...

More Candidates Come Out Against Minimum Wage

Connecticut GOP Senate nominee Linda McMahon may have been the first, but apparently, not the last Republican hopeful to question the need for a national minimum wage. Democrats are calling out three other Republican candidates for minimum wage-related statements in addition to McMahon, who first generated a firestorm of controversy last week for seemingly to disparage the existence of a nationwide minimum wage, which currently stands at $7.25. McMahon made her statements in accepting the endorsement of a business...

Capitol Idea: Republican Trouble In Palin Country

It’s possible, perhaps even probable, that Republican Joe Miller could run away with one of Alaska’s Senate seats in November. But with the Republican side of the ballot in open rebellion, that’s no longer a foregone conclusion. What’s really interesting isn’t that the Democrats could pick up a second Senate seat in solidly Republican Alaska. No, what could be most remarkable is if incumbent GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski beats the odds and comes back to the Senate next year....

China Currency Bill Brings House Together For Rare Pre-Election Bipartisanship

October 1, 2010 7:35 pm

Normally a partisan maelstrom even on the best of days, House Democrats and Republicans joined together to approve legislation designed to curb China’s manipulation of its currency. Such manipulation puts American-made products at a unfair disadvantage, and costs U.S. jobs, supporters of the bill say. Even as they fiercely jockey for position in the coming midterm elections, lawmakers came together Wednesday evening to approve the Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act (H.R. 2378) on a bipartisan 348-79 vote. “We...
