Senator Demands Probe In Gas Price Rise

April 18, 2011 8:42 pm

Amid the seemingly inexorable rise in gasoline prices, a Democratic senator is demanding federal regulators launch an investigation to ensure skyrocketing prices at the gas pump are not the result of excessive speculation or market manipulation. Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington released a breakdown of public data showing that excessive oil speculation costs Spokane, Wash., drivers $8 to $16 per tank. This “speculative premium” costs drivers up to 64 cents per gallon, Cantwell says. The price consumers pay at...

Look for the Union Bunny

Bullied, harassed, and lied to, District 1 of the Amalgamated Association of Easter Bunnies, AFB-CIO (American Federation of Bunnies–Cottontails International Organization) went on strike, forcing a halt to this year’s Easter egg hunts in Wisconsin. At Bunny Headquarters, Solomon P. Bunny, union executive secretary, and a militant corps of Easter bunnies were preparing picket signs. I walked in, notepad in hand. “Excuse me, Mr. Bunny, why aren’t your members delivering eggs this week?” Bunny looked up from the papers...

Bishops Appear To Ask To Take Planned Parenthood’s Mammogram Business

April 15, 2011 7:42 pm

Not satisfied that Republicans dropped their demand that the federal government end funding to Planned Parenthood to pay for cancer screenings and other basic healthcare services, U.S. Catholic bishops continued to rail against the organization Thursday. Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Texas went so far as to appear to want the government to turn such services over to Catholic-affiliated health providers. The White House and other Democrats last week refused to allow GOP lawmakers to force the federal government to...

Left Sees Hope In Obama’s Speech

April 14, 2011 7:47 pm

Despite apprehension on the left ahead of the speech, prominent progressives found reason to cheer President Obama’s plan to tackle the federal budget deficit and debt. While finding reason for optimism, though, one left-leaning budget expert nevertheless says he sees a basis for concern in the president’s proposed approach. Obama delivered an address Wednesday at a university in Washington in which he outlined a strategy for bringing down the mounting deficit and debt, while pledging to protect such key...

Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s response to whether he was planning on running for office: When Intel asked RFK Jr. if he had any aspirations to enter the political fray, he claimed that would be unnecessary. “Know what?” he said. “There’s 85 cousins in the fourth generation. About half of them say they’re going to go into politics. So I think that there’s, like, a tsunami coming.” From your lips to liberals ears, Bobby, Jr…. Bring them on! Sphere: Related...

Congressional Democrats observed Equal Pay Day on Tuesday by reintroducing legislation to provide women more fairness in the wages that they earn. Kerry’s Fed Up With the Flat Earth Caucus

April 13, 2011 2:20 pm
By

Reuters had an interesting piece yesterday about John Kerry speaking at the New Republic forum at the National Press Club. Kerry apparently was showing his feisty side yesterday, and it was a side of Kerry that the Reuters correspondent was unfamiliar with: there’s a feisty side to the senior senator from Massachusetts, and it was on display at a forum on energy and economic growth, where Kerry teed off on congressional Republicans and others who doubt the seriousness...

Welcome Back to the Civil War

This isn’t just some old “Lost Cause” stuff, kiddies. These people are serious, organized, and they’re using their political clout. But the media entirely focused (pointlessly) on “slavery.”
