Booze, Schmooze, but Not Any News: The “Today” Show Fourth Hour

October 7, 2011 9:06 am

by WALTER BRASCH   The most important media story this past week is that the Kardashians were guest co-hosts on the fourth hour of NBC’s “Today” show. One Kardashian sister per day, plus mother Kris and stepdad Bruce Jenner. It isn’t bad enough that talk shows, which have descended into a morass of being publicity mills for celebrity hucksters, adore them. It isn’t bad enough that the E! cable network, owned by NBCUniversal, throws millions of dollars to create...

Quote Of The Day: Obama on Occupy Wall Street

By

“I think it expresses the frustrations the American people feel, that we had the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression, huge collateral damage all throughout the country … and yet you’re still seeing some of the same folks who acted irresponsibly trying to fight efforts to crack down on the abusive practices that got us into this in the first place.” ~~ President Barack Obama Sphere: Related Content

Protesters were inside a Bank of America location in Los Angeles Thursday, but outside a prior action against Fannie Mae appeared to be paying off for at least one victim of foreclosure. More than 25 protesters occupied Bank of America in downtown Los Angeles, refusing to leave until the bank commits to keep families in their homes, pay a greater share of taxes and help rebuild neighborhoods hard-hit by the poor economy, according to an announcement by organizers. Meanwhile,...

Straw Poll: Progressives Want Stronger Washington Agenda

Although progressives overwhelmingly support President Obama’s American Jobs Act, most think that effort is too small — and they want a stronger  activist progressive agenda coming from Washington.   Those are some of the results of a new straw poll of those attending this week’s progressive Take Back The American Dream conference, held in the nation’s capital. Some 97 percent surveyed approved of the  president’s $447 billion jobs plan, although three-quarters think it’s actually not large enough, according to poll...

Bookmaker Lays Odds Palin Will Back Cain

With Sarah Palin officially out of the 2012 GOP presidential sweepstakes, an Irish bookmaker is laying odds that the former Alaska governor will back the surging campaign of Republican businessman Herman Cain. After months of speculation, Palin on Wednesday announced that she would not run for the Republican nomination to oppose President Obama in next year’s election. Irish bookmaker Paddy Power says it now expects Palin to get behind Cain, the former chief executive of Godfather Pizza. Cain, who calls...

Occupy Wall Street Grows

I’ve been watching the Occupy Wall Street movement grow with awe, as so many have. Last night my 67 year old cousin called and said “let’s go to New York!” Oh how I wish I could. But I am there in spirit every day… More labor unions entered into the fray today giving “a high-profile boost to the long-running protest against Wall Street and economic inequality Wednesday, with their members joining thousands of protesters in a lower Manhattan march. Across...

R.I.P. Steve Jobs

R.I.P. Steve Jobs

Just weeks after his Aug. 24, 2011 announcement that he was stepping down as Apple’s chief executive, Steve Jobs has passed away. Jobs was the “visionary co-founder of Apple who helped usher in the era of personal computers and then led a cultural transformation in the way music, movies and mobile communications were experienced in the digital age.” Mr. Jobs was the ultimate arbiter of Apple products, and his standards were exacting. Over the course of a year he...

Palin Will Not Run for President

October 5, 2011 8:51 pm
By

I don’t think too many people really thought that Sarah Palin would run for president in 2012. It is now officially, official… Palin Will Not Run: Sarah Palin’s brand would have been damaged by presidential run. Palin’s profile is already sky high, and a losing campaign would have been a brand-diminishing embarrassment to a woman about whom a laudatory documentary called “The Undefeated” came out over the summer.  Palin knew all this, but that didn’t stop her from repeatedly...
