OWS: The End Of The Beginning

Occupy Wall Street continued to move forward Tuesday, following an early-morning police raid which emptied Zuccotti Park, the protest’s focal point for 59 days. According to an online post not directly affiliated with Occupy, the protesters’ website streamed live video as the raid unfolded. The website also urged people to “get to the park immediately for eviction defense.” Demonstrators shouted “We love our country” and “You don’t have to do this.” The nationwide Occupy movement stood in solidarity with Occupy...

Mrs. Ayn Rand Paul’s Fishiness STILL Sticks

What they DON'T seem to get is the part about the Richie Riches believing that they can finally take over a dispirited and disunified Republican Party. Maybe, if I blog for another several years, they will. But they DO begin to "get" that radical libertarianism is, for most Americans, left and right, a "bridge too far" in its application.

President Obama Has Chance To Craft ‘Pro-Worker’ Trade Deal

By leading negotiations for a new international trade pact among nine Asian and Pacific Rim nations, President Obama has the opportunity to create “a pro-worker, pro-jobs trade agreement,” a U.S. labor leader says. In Hawaii hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, Obama also is continuing talks on the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). TPP would be trade agreement among the United States, Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam. It also is the first free trade...

Crossroads GPS, the shadowy conservative organization which former Bush White House aide Karl Rove helped found, has launched $1.8 million in advertising attacking five Democratic Senate candidates, including Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts, according to the arm of the Democratic Party tasked with electing Democrats to the Senate. The attacks come a full year ahead of the 2012 elections, in which Democrats will be defending their small Senate majority against a Republican onslaught. Crossroads GPS, which spent heavily on attack...

The Personhood of a Mississippi

by WALTER BRASCH    “O.K., class, we have a few minutes at the end of today’s lecture about how the godless Communists created evolution to try to destroy the decent loyal patriotic capitalist society of America. Any questions? Yes, Billy Bob.” “Mr. Jim Bob, I heard about this thing called a person. What is that?” “Good question. With all the distortions by the lyin’ liberal left-wing, it can get confusing. But, it’s really simple. A person is an egg...

Perry’s ‘Ooops’ Hardly The Only Gaffe in CNBC Debate

Rick Perry’s on-stage memory lapse may have stolen the show as the low point of CNBC’s GOP presidential debate, but he is hardly the only one to have “stepped in it” Wednesday night, as Texas governor himself might put it. Perry may have done his White House bid irreparable harm when he stumbled and forgot the third of three federal agencies he vowed to eliminate if elected president. He ticked off the Commerce and Education departments before fumbling for...

Capitol Idea: Clinton, Obama, and the Wall Street Fat Cats

Barack Obama would be so much better off if he weren’t so mean to Wall Street. Amazingly, that’s not an attack from one of the Democratic president’s GOP opponents. No, it comes from another Democrat, Bill Clinton, in the form of the former president’s new book, Back To Work. Clinton’s criticism of his fellow Oval Office Democrat is oblique rather than harsh: “Many of them supported me when I raised their taxes in 1993, because I...

Poll: 43% Don’t Believe Cain’s Denials; Gender Gap Exposed

Many Americans don’t appear to be buying Herman Cain’s denials of allegations of serial sexual wrongdoing, according to a new national opinion poll. The survey, taken Tuesday after the Republican presidential hopeful staged a press conference to deny allegations brought forward by multiple women, finds a plurality simply don’t believe Cain when he says the sexual harassment allegations against him are “totally fabricated.” The survey, taken by the Poll Position polling organization, finds that 43 percent of Americans do...
