Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down….
Well, of course, kids. Because Sesame Workshop is at the mercy of such as Mitt Romney, and can’t afford to be controversial in the least. Too bad, too, since the Obama ad in question is hilarious. (But watch quick, they may be forced to take it down if the Faux Fox Feigned outrage has its way …)
Roger Ailes should know, since he also invented and runs Faux Nooz. We are now six straight days from the debate with most of the news media obsessed with the latest polling, Andrew Sullivan having a shrieking fit of what Southern ladies used to call “the vapors,” and the breathless BS of the horse-race media, who COULD be covering a very peculiar, stealth American election, but choose, instead, to sit around the pot-bellied stove, chawing terbaccky, telling old stories and speculating about what the future could bring, and spitting into the open grating onto the fire to hear the satisfying hiss.
They began a few days ago, reflexively ATTACKING Big Bird (because, if it is not for us, it must be against us, ergo ATTACK! as predator instinct and not strategic thought).
And now, the attack shifts ever so slightly, to attempt to move the subject away from Mitt Romney’s stumble into the orchestra pit last Wednesday.
You see, nobody wants to talk about the REAL moment. The real drama as understood by humans and not eggheads.
One: Mitt Romney is against Big Bird.
Two: He looked straight into the elderly moderator’s eyes and told him that he wants to fire him.
Sorry: that’s being a prick who kicks Bambi. And that’s what America saw. Neither the Obama campaign nor the Romney campaign seem to “get” that, as yet another Mittbot 3000 is trotted out, with a new “reintroduction” of the android to the gullible malleable pullable publick.It’s that moment in the recent Gallifanakis/Ferrell comedy film where one candidate, fighting over who gets to kiss a baby in a photo op, attempts to punch the other candidate and belts the baby instead.
They’re dominating the blogoscreech with their blogobloviating all within the margins of error. That’s not news.
Meantime, a whole segment of the public is figuring out that Mitt actually said that. Just batted his slitted pupil eyes, licked his lips with his forked tongue and decided to threaten the moderator, after ignoring and bullying him. In the aftermath, the “smart” pundits somehow think that the bully won.
Big Bird fans everywhere beg to differ.
And fans of civilization everywhere blanch at the casual cruelty that Mr. Romney displayed towards Jim Lehrer in gratuitously “firing” him — in keeping with the narrative of the workers at the plants he’s closed and pocketed cash from BY closing them. Sixty million Americans know what Mitt looks like when he’s firing you.
And that is falling in the orchestra pit, no matter how you want to slice it.
It’s like the Clint Eastwood thing (which I just re-watched and am EMBARRASSED for Clint the whole way through): that was the Romney campaign falling into the orchestra pit, and those are the headlines. Six days later.
