Barney Frank Interested In Becoming Massachusetts Interim Senator

Just one day after retiring from the House, Barney Frank, said today “that he has asked Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick to send him back as an interim senator when Sen. John Kerry becomes secretary of state.”

Frank noted that a short time ago he wasn’t interested in returback to the Hill, “But [the fiscal cliff deal] now means that February, March and April are going to be among the most important months in American financial history.”

Governor Patrick isn’t letting on who he’ll nominate but “other names mentioned as a possible caretaker for Kerry’s seat include former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis and former Massachusetts Supreme Court Justice Margaret Marshall — who crafted the historic ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in the Bay State.”

As a Massachusetts resident, I’d be thrilled to see Barney Frank or Mike Dukakis as our interim Senator. Ultimately it’s up to Governor Patrick and I believe he’ll make the right choice for our state. I must say the more I think of the idea of Barney Frank as our interim Senator, the more I like it. He’s been part of the fiscal cliff battle, I’d like to see him in the fray a little longer, as he is willing to be.
