Dear Mr. President,
The pomp and circumstance of your second inauguration is over, and the American people are ready to follow your lead, well then again maybe only 51% of us. Stay true to yourself, don’t allow the political tomfoolery of Washington DC deter you or hinder your resolve.
The majority of America voted for you, not because of what we feared from a Mitt Romney presidency, it was because we believed in you. Mr. President we still believe in hope and change.
We believe in the hope and change of an America where all people, no matter their race, creed, or sexual orientation have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We still believe in the hope and change of an America where the poorest child has a real fighting chance to live the American dream.
We still believe in the hope and change of an America that can lower it’s deficits and at the same time ensure its senior citizens are taken care of in this their most vulnerable years. We believe in the hope and the change of an America where a good education is not just allotted to individuals who live on the right side of the tracks.
We still believe in the hope and the change of an America where service members are not just given a pat on the back and a firm handshake when they return home from war with honor. They should be allowed every opportunity for personal success outside of the battlefield. We owe them that much.
We still believe in an America the shines its light of freedom and democracy to the world, not just in its words but in its deeds. We still believe in the hope and the change of an America that protects the rights of its minorities and preserves the laws that were fought for to ensure that they have every opportunity for both personal and professional success.
Mr. President, we still believe in the hope and the change that poverty is a sickness to which government does play a role in finding its cure. We need you to lead us Mr. President, even the ones that didn’t vote for you, from the back woods of Alabama to the farms in Tennessee. That strong Southern pride will not allow them to admit that they need you more than most.
We believe because you make us want to believe Mr. President. You make us want to believe in a more progressive, unified, and forward thinking America. Give us our marching orders Mr. President and those of us who want to see a more progressive and inclusive Union will follow. The time is now.
