She’s ready… Hillary Clinton has finally ended all of the speculation of whether or not she would run for president, by announcing her candidacy for the 2016 Presidential Election this afternoon at approximately 3:00 pm.

The initial announcement was made by an email from Hillary’s campaign chairman John Podesta, to alert donors and longtime Clinton associates of her intention to run. Podesta noted that Hillary “would meet soon with voters in Iowa and host a formal kickoff event some time next month.”

Moments later her campaign released a short video in which Hillary announced with a smile, “I’m running for president.”

The NY Times notes:

The announcement effectively began what could be one of the least contested races, without an incumbent, for the Democratic presidential nomination in recent history — a stark contrast to the 2008 primaries, when Mrs. Clinton, the early front-runner, ended up in a long and expensive battle won by Barack Obama. It could also be the first time a woman captures a major party’s nomination.

I’m one of those Hillary supporters that has been patiently, and quietly waiting for this day to come. I could not be happier that Hillary has decided to run (I never doubted that she would). As a life long feminist I believe we are way overdue to have a woman president in the United States. I felt that way in 2008 when I endorsed here on The Democratic Daily and supported her bid for the nomination. I believe Hillary Clinton is strong on all the issues that matter to women in our nation. As a single mother, entrepreneur and long time political blogger and activist, I’ve been Ready for Hillary for some time now.
