Obama and Wright, and the Donkey in the Living Room

I abhor racism. I also abhor sexism, misogyny, gay-hating (“homophobia” is too soft a word), and anti-Semitism. So it is within this context that I address the Jeremiah Wright issue. It makes me sad and angry that people consider Obama’s mentor to be a terrible person because he blames America for the plight of African Americans. He is, after all, correct; this is a very racist country. When I see blog and forum postings about how Obama would “only...

Clinton, Once Again, Gets Biggest Northern Ireland Validation of All

Nobel Peace Prize winner John Hume, speaking on a nationally syndicated radio show yesterday, talked about Sen. Clinton’s work in Northern Ireland–her “people-to-people approach, her generous use of time in meeting with the various sectors of the region, her interest in the real concerns and needs of the people of Ireland, and her focus on peace.” He also talked about Clinton’s contributions through her lecturing at the University of Ulster’s Tip O’Neill Chair of Peace Studies on the subject...

A few words about George H.W. Bush

March 21, 2008 11:33 am

A quick review of some of George H.W. Bush’s exploits: He campaigned for the presidency by vigorously attacking Americans who fight for the preservation of civil liberties. He was a senior and adviser and member of the Carlyle Group, the giant conglomerate that has helped to seal economic ties between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, our most repressive, undemocratic “friend.” Through a campaign of vicious lies and character assassination perpetrated by Episcopal priest and former Congressman John Danforth, Bush’s...

Clinton, Obama, and the Dreaded “A” Word

March 16, 2008 6:37 pm

One of the criticisms that has been aimed at Sen. Clinton for many years now is that she is ambitious. We hear it from talking heads, from Republicans, and now–from Democrats. Yes, she is. So is Sen. Obama, whose rise from freshman Senator to presidential candidate was a carefully and brilliantly orchestrated phenomenon. Obama’s intelligence and poise are obvious, but intelligence and poise are not enough to launch someone into political stardom. Product branding is essential, and Obama has...

At This Point, “Double Standard” Is Ridiculous Understatement

March 2, 2008 5:57 pm

The Web’s most popular liberal forum is on fire because of Sen. Hillary Clinton’s 60 Minutes interview about the rumor that Sen. Obama is a Muslim. Obama was careful to say, when it was his turn, that the rumor is offensive to Muslims because of its presumption. Clinton said she “takes him (Obama) at his word” that he is not a Muslim. Members of the aforementioned forum are practically breathing fire over the fact that Clinton did not denounce...

I’m a “Whiner”–and I Don’t Intend to Stop Whining

This primary has demonstrated nothing if it has not demonstrated how Americans view misogyny as opposed to racism. Let me begin by stating that I know that the United States is a very racist nation, and nothing I am about to say should be interpreted to mean that I think racism is not a huge problem in our country. Bigotry of all types abound here–racism, misogyny, gay-hating (the term “homophobia” is just to soft for me), hatred of the...

Hillary Clinton Is My Choice–part 2–Why I Cannot Support Sen. Obama

February 14, 2008 4:57 pm

Yesterday, I wrote about why I support Hillary Rodham Clinton to be the next president of the United States. Today, I am here to talk about why I cannot support Barack Obama as president. First, I should say that Sen. Obama’s liberal credentials are sound, and his voting record is impressive. In that respect, he is a good candidate. But there are some things that disturb me about him and his campaign: Sen. Obama is not who he pretends...

Hillary Clinton Is My Choice–part 1–Why I Support Sen. Clinton

As a Green Party member, I am well aware that the American people are not seeking the kind of radical change that Green values represent. Thankfully, though, there are still people in the Democratic Party who believe strongly in progressive values, and who practice them. One of those people is Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. When I think of Sen. Clinton, I cannot help but think about the dreadful “family values” arguments that were so popular during the Reagan days,...
