Secularism, Religion, Politics

June 16, 2007 6:41 am

Four interesting posts / articles were published yesterday about secularism (and religion) in America. First read this article at The American Prospect by Paul Waldman. Next, read this post by Ross Douthat (at The Atlantic, and this post by Jonah Goldberg at NRO’s The Corner. Lastly, read this post by, again, Ross Douthat (in response to Jonah’s post). Also read this article (PDF warning). It is quite interesting to see that evangelicals tend to vote for socially conservative if...

A Bad Time to Be a Republican

June 15, 2007 9:52 am
By

Bad news for Republicans: “By 52% to 31%, Americans say they want Democrats to win the presidency next year.” Americans give the Republican Party their most negative assessment in the two-decade history of the Journal/NBC survey, and by 49% to 36% they say the Democratic Party more closely shares their values and positions on the issues. The Democratic candidates do better than their Republican counterparts as well: Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, who has strengthened her lead in...

Golden Mosque Bombing Leads to More Sectarian Violence

June 14, 2007 9:25 am
By

Sunni terrorists blew up the minarettes of the famous Golden Mosque in Samarra. Iraqi police arrested four suspects. Meanwhile, Shiites decided to take revenge and attacked and destroyed a couple of Sunni mosques. This is – of course – another reason why Iraq will not be a stable democracy for quite some time to come: the eye for an eye mentality is alive and well. In good working Democracies, citizens have to accept the Rule of Law. When something...

Pat Robertson: Islam is Not a Religion – It’s a Worldwide Political Movement

It is a worldwide political movement meant on domination of the world. And it is meant to subjugate all people under Islamic law. In the Quran, it says it very clearly. There are two spheres. One is the Dar al-Harb, which is the realm of war. The other is Dar al-Islam, which is that part that’s under submission...

A Question about John Kerry

June 13, 2007 5:33 am
By

Since I have the opportunity to blog here – to share thoughts with all of you – I thought I might just as well ask a question I wanted to ask progressives who supported Kerry so passionately as some of you (especially, of course, Pamela) did, what it is about Kerry that appealed (and probably continues to appeal) to you? In other words: why did you support John Kerry? What issues matter most to you? Secondly, who are you...

CNN’s Political Ticker reports that Mitt Romney continues to do well in the states that truly matter: Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has jumped to the head of the pack of 2008 Republican presidential contenders in New Hampshire, according to a CNN/WMUR poll out Tuesday. Romney shot past former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Sen. John McCain of Arizona in the latest poll, conducted Wednesday through Monday by the University of New Hampshire. Former Tennessee senator and “Law...

It’s Not About Centrism, It’s About Moderation

Let me first take the time to thank Pamela for giving me the opportunity to write some guest posts for one of the best progressive blogs in the blogosphere. I greatly appreciate it and I hope that, by posting a bit here, I can help Pamela out. Congratulations with the graduation of your daughter! Secondly, there were some things that happened recently, I will not comment on them. What happened happened, I hold no grudges to anyone (mostly because...
