Suffolk U!

Remember my recap the other day regarding polling in the Dem race? And the only poll out there showing Clinton would win came from Suffolk University? * Suffolk University : Clinton 35%, Obama 33%, Edwards 14% “But as Carpetbagger notes, “Come Wednesday morning, the pollsters at Suffolk University are going to look remarkably good or embarrassingly bad.” Looks like the kudos of the day goes to Suffolk University. What’s their mascot, a slide rule or something? New Hillary Clinton...

MSNBC: Idiots

Pamela’s already mentioned Tweety Mathew’s stupid comments from this morning. I just wanted to chime in with some thoughts in general about how, across the board last night, MSNBC was full of morons and nincompoops who got it so wrong regarding the Democratic vote in New Hampshire, it defied belief. I tuned in around 8ish and was stunned to watch the next hour or so as Mathews and Olbermann sat there denying the obvious: that Hillary Clinton was coming...

Them Uppity Women

January 8, 2008 11:09 am

Building on posts from Pamela (here and here) and others, Gloria Steinem makes a devastating charge in this morning’s NYT, arguing that Women are Never the Front-Runners: “But what worries me is that is seen as unifying by his race while is seen as divisive by her sex.”What worries me is that she is accused of “playing the gender card” when citing the old boys’ club, while he is seen as unifying by citing civil rights confrontations....

LBJ & The Ghost of Christmas Past

December 24, 2007 11:20 am

Great story in today’s WaPo on LBJ’s failed attempt to enlist the help of the Pope to end the conflict in Vietnam, as played out over the days leading up to Christmas, 1967. “Air Force One roared into the air at noon on Dec. 19, 1967, carrying Lyndon Baines Johnson on a secret mission. The Vietnam War raged. Johnson was desperate for peace. He would risk a 4 1/2 -day, 27,000-mile globe-circling journey to find it, plowing the skies...

C.I.A. Destroyed Tapes of Harsh Interrogations: WASHINGTON, Dec. 6 — The Central Intelligence Agency in 2005 destroyed at least two videotapes documenting the interrogation of two Al Qaeda operatives in the agency’s custody, a step it took in the midst of Congressional and legal scrutiny about the C.I.A’s secret detention program, according to current and former government officials. “The videotapes showed agency operatives in 2002 subjecting terror suspects — including Abu Zubaydah, the first detainee in C.I.A. custody —...

The Young Conservatives

November 18, 2007 9:10 am

Eye opening piece in this morning’s Post regarding the next wave of “young conservatives” poised to take up the mantle of the nearly dead ideology known as conservatism. My favorite quip comes from this young, freshly scrubbed, “go-getter” on illegal immigration. “When wanted to spark a debate about immigration, he and other College Republicans club members put up a fence in the plaza and hosted a “Catch...

T. Boone Pickens Responds to Kerry

In case you missed it, here’s Boone Pickens’ response to Kerry yesterday: “Dear Senator Kerry: “So glad to hear from you regarding the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth political ad campaign, and an offer I made public at an American Spectator dinner in Washington, D.C. last week. I am intrigued by your letter, and am certainly open to your challenge. “My concern at the Spectator Dinner was, and continues to be, that you and other political figures were and...

The Lion Has Roared

In keeping with Dizzy’s “somber Saturday” theme below, comes word that one of the last great literary lions of the 20th century has died. “Norman Mailer, the combative, controversial and often outspoken novelist who loomed over American letters longer and larger than any writer of his generation, died today in Manhattan. He was 84. “He died of acute renal failure at Mount Sinai Hospital early this morning, his family said.Mr. Mailer burst on the scene in 1948 with “The...
