In The Land of Violation And Healing

A few days ago, I watched an interview with Angela Jolie about her new movie – first directed movie – In the Land of Blood and Honey. I was so deeply moved to witness her talking about wanting to open a discourse about the rape of women used as a weapon of war. It’s a much welcomed yet long overdue open conversation. I truly hope it helps bring the problem into awareness of our world and to heal the...

Maybe it’s the cold medicine, but, today’s Ten Post Round-Up has my head spinning: 1: Proof of progress in Iraq: Seatbelts!… As the Iraqis Buckle Up, We Will Stand Down–Bring It On! 2: Sometimes, doing things the old-fashioned way, really is best… Exposed: The Great GM Crops Myth–CommonDreams.org 3: Ben Stein’s movie is number 8 with a bullet! On the upside, it should be available in Blu-Ray in a couple of months!… Expelled’s Weekend Box Office–Friendly Atheist 4: To...

Late Night: In Search of the Good Old Nervous Breakdown

Look what’s become passe… old-fashioned “nervous breakdowns.” Hardly anyone mentions those anymore. “I haven’t heard that term in years,” said Mike Fitzpatrick, executive director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a national advocacy organization based in Arlington, Va. “’It’s from another era.” The term — a vague catch-all phrase that could mean anything from a psychotic episode to having a bad day — is not a medical term, doctors say, but it was a popular one that was...

I don’t think this is from the Clinton campaign as the HuffPo claims, but it’s very a very entertaining compilation of classic Jack Nicholson lines making a case for Hillary: Sphere: Related Content

The time has come for me to begin my “Diva-fication” for my work week (“Diva” is my work name, kind of like “Diddy” without the annual variations. I was actually given that alias by my early blogosphere friends and I have worn the moniker proudly for more than 5 years). In any case, that means I’ll be on radio silence for a couple of days. Just as I am learning to relax, I have to go back to my...

Great Hoogally-Moogally! The writers’ strike is over and the Academy Awards will go on, as scheduled, tonight! The “Oscars” have always been sort of a big deal in our home, where we play “guess the winner” (and I always win). This year, I’ll probably skip them because I haven’t really been keeping up with what movies or stars, etc. got nominations, this year. Well…except “Sweeney Todd” and Johnny Depp (I know I promised ya’ll a review ages ago…get off...

Dizzy’s Ten Post Round-Up

It’s Thursday. That means I’m in work-mode. Getting ready for work, for me, is more like the way that Jennifer Lopez might prepare versus how Jane Doe blue collar might do so. I dress like I’m going to the Saturday dance and when I’m there, I am there to put on a show (especially on slow nights…which are, thankfully, rare). Because I am a small town girl who never had the connections to make it to the big time...
