Our Economic Nightmare

Many Americans have dug a hole so deep thanks to corporate bankers and our government’s propensity to bail them out before helping the little people that are losing their homes, that it could be a long while before we’ve seen the end of our collective economic nightmare. It doesn’t take a degree in rocket science [...]

Bank Bail Out Planned

Financial Times reports that the Feds are ready to bail out the big banks:
Large US investment banks will be able to access emergency cash from the Federal Reserve into next year if market turmoil persists, Ben Bernanke said on Tuesday in a sign of the growing concern among policymakers that financial strains could continue for [...]

US Economy Enduring Rough Period?

How out of touch is Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson? So out of touch that he thinks what’s going on with the economy is simply a “rough period.”
That’s right… BushCo wants Americans to believe that “soaring crude oil prices, a widespread credit crunch and a two-year long housing market slump” has simply “taken some of the [...]

Dana Milbank Bites The Dark Lord Cheney

In today’s WaPo Dana Milbank uses his column to bite The Dark Lord, (no, not He-Who-Shall-Not-Be Named), VP Dick Cheney square on the ass while reporting also on Dennis Kucinch’s futile attempt to impeach George Bush. That effort died a quick death.
“Why so unwilling to impeach Bush? As Democratic leaders like to say, two words: [...]

Amnesty International 2008 Report - Failing Grades to Powerful Countries

We are failing at human rights, globally. That’s not a big surprise but the annual Amnesty International Report (Pdf version … big file!) is a good opportunity to remind us all that we need to is a good opportunity to remind us all that we need to do much much more for human rights, [...]

The Politics of Humanitarian Aid: The U.S. and Myanmar

President Bush was justifiably upset. A cyclone four days earlier had destroyed a large portion of Myanmar, and the country’s military junta was still refusing humanitarian aid. “Let the United States come to help you, help the people,” Bush pleaded with the junta. “We’re prepared to move U.S. Navy assets to help find those who’ve [...]

Buying an iBond and Remembering FDR

Cross-Posted on Stock Picks Bob’s Advice:
A few days ago I discussed how I was looking into an iBond. So I visited my local Wells Fargo Bank and purchased a $5,000 bond for a long-term investment. And the more I thought about, the more I became perplexed about this new limit on individual savings [...]

The Bush Administration Defeated in its Attempt to Undermine Anti-Cluster Bombs Treaty

Cross-posted from The Global Sociology Blog.
Via Human Rights Watch , or, as I call it, “is there no issue on which this administration is not willing to take the most vile position, contradicting every standard of good global governance and just plain ol’ human decency”? I know… simple answer to simple question. Anyhoo,

“US efforts [...]

Dizzy’s Ten Post Round-Up

I’m a little distracted, right now, as I hope to be for the rest of the week. I imagine that today’s Ten Post Round-Up will probably drag you (kicking and screaming) back down to earth:
1: McCain says “Bu-Bye” to another lobbyist….
Another McCain Lobbyist Bites The Dust–Cliff Schecter
2: You should get [...]
