Breaking News… NBC News reports that a U.S. soldier at Camp Liberty in Iraq “opened fire on fellow members of the military, killing four and wounding several others” before taking his own life.
The attacker was described as a “stressed out” U.S. soldier.

Condoleezza Rice “would make a great middle school social studies teacher,” according to the late Don Askew, a retired Green Beret colonel and Middle East advisor to Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.
“Incompetent” was about the kindest thing I ever heard him say about Rice and her boss over the mess they made in Iraq.
My [...]

There have now been more than 4,000 deaths and 30,000 casualties of American military in the war in Iraq. More than 100,000 Iraqis and others, most of them civilian, have also been killed in what is now known to be an unnecessary war. But, we as a nation are not outraged.

The Houston Chronicle reported on Wednesday that almost “six years after American troops were exposed to a toxic chemical at an Iraqi water treatment plant, two U.S. senators say the Army has yet to give a full accounting of a defense contractor’s apparent failure to protect troops from the chemical.”
Democratic Sens. Byron Dorgan of North Dakota [...]

CNN’s Christian Amanpour sat down with the Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for a video interview. While the US is taking a stronger stand against the inaction of Pakistan, per US Defense Minister Gibbs, the Pakistani government is demanding an end to the drone attacks. The US military command has given the Iraq government an ultimatum. Either accept the status of forces agreement on the table, which much of the Iraq government finds unacceptable, or the US will cease all operations on January 1, 2009.
In addition to halting all military actions, U.S. forces would cease activities that support Iraq’s economy, [...]

Barack Obama.
No surprise there, though the Post is hardly a bastion of liberalism and pro-Democratic sentiment, regardless of what the finger-pointing self-victimizers of the right may have to say about it.
It’s actually not a bad endorsement — well, actually, it’s quite good — with most of it focusing on Obama’s many positive qualities and policy [...]

Since the third and last, (thank god), debate I’ve essentially over-occupied myself with reading one of the most instructive and yet discouraging books I’ve ever read: State of Denial by Bob Woodward. While many of you may have pushed through this very detailed account of the actual execution of war planning and war execution, I’ve [...]
