Unfree Unspeech

Our boycott isn't a boycott, like those evil liberal lefties like Ed Schultz. We will retroactively Dixie Chicks either him or Carbonite and harm someone because someone withdrew their advertising from Rush Limbaugh -- because he verbally abused an American girl, a young woman not long out of high school for having the courage to testify in front of the few, minority members of Congress who would listen to her.

Star Gazing: Comets, Actors, and Angelina’s Right Leg

In 1973, some friends and I went to the rooftop of our apartment building to watch Comet Kahoutek, touted by astronomers and the media as the comet of all comets. We were sure we’d see it since we had the requisite equipment—binoculars and beer. But we didn’t see the comet. Not that night nor the next night. What we did see was a lot of universe. And while we talked about the ungrateful comet that barely shone against a...

Breitbart is Dead, but his Spirit Lives On …

Case in point: Liberals celebrate death of Andrew Breitbart — Which wouldn't be surprising, of course, had I not written this in a private email moments before it popped up on the Front Page of Memeorandum, as I explained that I wouldn't be writing any schadenfreudy snark, etc.:

Fewer Words; Less Filling

The Reduced Shakespeare Co. cleverly and humorously abridges all of Shakespeare’s 37 plays to 97 minutes. Short of having a set of Cliff’s Notes or a collection of Classic Comics, sources of innumerable student essays for more than a half-century, it may be the least painful way to “learn” Shakespeare. The critically-acclaimed show, in addition to being a delightful way to spend part of an evening, is a satiric slap upside the head of the mass media. The condensation...

The Super Bowl was February 5 this year. Did you pay attention to the responses some people had watching it on T.V.?  “Kick ‘im in the head.” “Squash ‘im into the ground.” Followed by lots of four-letter words, yelling at the players, and throwing things across the room.  And did you listen closely to some of the talk in the stands? “Kill ‘em!”  “Take ‘em out!” “Crush ‘em!” This kind of behavior at sporting events, especially football games, is...

An Open Letter to Current TV

If you want to play news, wear a suit and tie, and if you're in jeans, fine, but do it behind a desk. Contrary to popular delusion, you don't need to have a news staff prancing about aerobically to deliver credible, reliable, important news.

Game Changer in South Carolina: Newt Gingrich Wins

January 21, 2012 8:24 pm
By

Via MSNBC: Newt Gingrich has won the South Carolina Republican primary, capping off a remarkable comeback for his presidential bid that reshapes the trajectory of the battle for the GOP nomination… The results mark the end of a tumultuous week in politics that saw Gingrich erase and then overcome the lead Romney had in the Palmetto State following his victory in the Jan. 10 New Hampshire primary. Gingrich came on strong in the closing days of the campaign,...
