Franklin Graham Apologizes for Questioning President Obama’s Faith

Yesterday, Evangelist Franklin Graham apologized to President Obama for questioning his Christian faith. Graham had said in a recent MSNBC interview that he “did not know whether Obama is a Christian” and he suggested that “Islamic law considers him to be a Muslim.” Graham, son of evangelist Billy Graham, said he now “accepts Obama’s declarations that he is a Christian.” “I regret any comments I have ever made which may have cast any doubt on the personal faith of our president,...

Maine Senator Olympia Snowe to Retire

Maine Republican Senator Olympia Snowe has announced her retirement. A moderate Republican, who has often voted with Democrats in the Senate cited the extreme partisanship of recent years as her reasoning. In a statement Snowe said, “Unfortunately, I do not realistically expect the partisanship of recent years in the Senate to change over the short term. So at this stage of my tenure in public service, I have concluded that I am not prepared to commit myself to an additional...

After finally finishing watching the screener this afternoon, I can only say, this is some must watch TV. The Super Bowl was February 5 this year. Did you pay attention to the responses some people had watching it on T.V.?  “Kick ‘im in the head.” “Squash ‘im into the ground.” Followed by lots of four-letter words, yelling at the players, and throwing things across the room.  And did you listen closely to some of the talk in the stands? “Kill ‘em!”  “Take ‘em out!” “Crush ‘em!” This kind of behavior at sporting events, especially football games, is...

Rep. Issa Bars Minority Witness, a Woman, on Contraception Hearing

Republican Rep. Darrell Issa chaired a hearing on Capitol Hill today on religious freedom and the new mandate that health insurers cover contraception.  As the hearing got under way,  an argument broke out over Democrats could add a female witness to the all-male panel. “Where are the women?” the minority Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., asked early in the hearing. She criticized the Republican committee chairman, Rep. Darrel Issa, for wanting to “roll back the fundamental rights of women to a time when the government thought...

President Obama unveiled his federal budget proposal today. The reactions have varied across partisan lines. Massachusetts Senator John Kerry issued the following statement on President Barack Obama’s federal budget proposal today: “This is a balanced blue print to grow our economy, make some tough deficit reduction choices, and end the tax breaks for the wealthiest that never created jobs and gave us deficits in the first place. This plan maintains critical investments in research and development, education, and clean...

Former Clinton White House aide and Arizona prosecutor Andrei Cherny announced his run for Congress in Arizona’s 9th Congressional District. I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Andrei on John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign.   If you live in Arizona get involved here. In related news on Arizona and the House, “Ron Barber, an aide to former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) who was wounded in the shooting spree that also injured Giffords, will run to replace her in...

Exploring a Run for Barney Frank’s Seat, Joseph Kennedy III Makes Another Move

AP News reports today that  ”Joseph Kennedy III has moved to a different Boston suburb ahead of an expected congressional bid to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Kennedy had been living in Cambridge which is not in Frank’s district. A spokesman for Kennedy says he “is taking time to listen to families in the district.” I just...
